Le Park de Cleres Parc de Clères news

In a newspaper article we learn that the park wants to welcome new species in the near future. Some are listed : asian otters, markhors, marmots. Moreover they want to replace the axis deers by a more endangered deer species. Père David's deers are mentionned.

When I visited eighteen months ago, there were no deer in evidence. Is it possible they were across the road in the other area? Delacour’s autobiography refers to the park holding both Axis and Pseudaxis (‘Formosan’ Sika) Deer.
Surely Markhor would not do well on grass?

Well, they are not mentionned in the last guide book so maybe they left for a while.
At the moment, there are just reeve's muntjacs and chinese water deers.

For info, Pseudaxis are vietnamese sikas and Formosan are taïwanese sikas ;)

Some recent news :
- a male bearded emperor tamarin left the park for Gdansk,
- a female red panda, born in the park, will leave for Mulhouse during the next week,
- a female and a male gibbon (no more details) will leave the park soon,
- the rainbow loriquets aviary is not finished yet but they hope to open it during spring.

The infant Red Panda has been euthanized, as it suffered severe health issues.
À Rouen et son agglomération métropole on Instagram: "Adieu, petit Panda Roux Triste nouvelle au Parc de Clères : le petit panda roux, né le 16 juin 2025, n’a pas survécu. Le 5 septembre dernier, l’équipe a dû prendre une décision difficile : procéder à son euthanasie, afin de lui éviter toute souffrance. Dès ses premières semaines de vie, le jeune animal présentait de graves problèmes de santé. Les vétérinaires avaient constaté des malformations sévères au niveau des yeux, ainsi qu’un développement général anormal. Malgré les soins prodigués, son état ne permettait pas d’espérer une évolution favorable. La situation était d’autant plus compliquée que ses parents avaient adopté des comportements inhabituels : le petit n’était plus correctement nourri et son développement s’est rapidement ralenti. Face à ce double constat – santé très fragile et absence de soins parentaux – la décision, aussi douloureuse soit-elle, s’est imposée. Cette disparition est une épreuve pour l’équipe du parc, qui suit avec passion et engagement la reproduction de cette espèce menacée. Mais l’espoir reste présent : une nouvelle gestation chez la femelle panda roux est espérée pour 2026."
