Zoo Usti has sent a pair of Brazilian tapirs to Parco Faunistico Le Cornelle. Male is PEPA and female is ISARA.

Interesting, does Usti still hold South American tapir ... or is this in accordance with transferring over till Malayan tapir (as per former director's plans for an Asian precinct)?

Usti will make some small repairs in their former Brasilian tapir enclosure and move Malayan tapirs there. They switch species, no Brasilians left now.

- A male White Rhino is arrived from Athens (born in Athens)
 
Got some news: last year the reptile house has been renowed, recently a sitatunga is born, and this winter (I suppose), sitatungas, bongos and tapirs exhibits have been renowed too
 
0.2 Amur tigers have arrived from Riga.
The enclosure has been renovated.
This park is a bit underrated, but it is really nice with an interesting collection.

In the past perhaps this was somewhat justified, but I agree the park has developed quite nicely since then. Some very nice new exhibits have been built over the years. Also, their animal collection and plan are improving significantly (now clouded leopards!).

@Marco, any news on the white rhino group (matings last year)?

@Kifaru Bwana , when was the last time that you have been there? They have been great also in breeding snow leopards, and they are doing a nice job for bongos. Concerning white rhinos, we've seen them mating last year, but unfortunately without any result. We have to keep our fingers crossed for this year.

@Cordialemente,Dottore .... I was referring to a very long time ago!

I know it is close to home and please do not take it as critique. It was the state of affairs years ago with Italian zoos in general. Since, the 2000's the situation has much improved if not massively and some fine new modern zoos have come up. I actually value some of the city zoo's like yours and Parco Natura Viva among the best over the mundane safari parks (Fasano and Pombia).

For bongo Le Cornelle has maintained a nice herd. End 2018 they held 3 females. I assume Le Cornelle have now acquired a bull to breed (I did see some footage of a youngish calf on the site). Any news on their bongo is hard to come by though on their website or FB (I gave up).
