Parco Faunistico Le Cornelle

@Cordialemente,Dottore .... I was referring to a very long time ago!

I know it is close to home and please do not take it as critique. It was the state of affairs years ago with Italian zoos in general. Since, the 2000's the situation has much improved if not massively and some fine new modern zoos have come up. I actually value some of the city zoo's like yours and Parco Natura Viva among the best over the mundane safari parks (Fasano and Pombia).

For bongo Le Cornelle has maintained a nice herd. End 2018 they held 3 females. I assume Le Cornelle have now acquired a bull to breed (I did see some footage of a youngish calf on the site). Any news on their bongo is hard to come by though on their website or FB (I gave up).

At the moment there are still only 3 females, but the plan is different for the near future;).
If you want to come again to Italy, tell me when...and we can meet somewhere visiting colleagues in the zoos of Northern Italy, even in my institution.

Yes, that will be very nice to do and thank you for the offer. I will keep it in mind for the summertime.

For now of course, we are not allowed to travel either in The Netherlands, but hopefully by then things will be different.

I think there are Italian zoos which are much better than Fasano.

Luca, I was merely commenting on where things stood in the distant past. Thankfully, peoples' preferences have changed and now facilities like Fasano are viewed in a different way. Zoos in Italia have been developing certainly much since the 2000's, even the city zoos in Napoli and Roma.

This is digressing from the Le Cornelle thread though!!!

Two questions :
- Who is YUKI's father ? (snow leopard)
- Some news of NEO, who arrived in december 2012 ? (clouded leopard)

@Marco Penello, Is this a good development or what to make of it?
(No news items around it ...?)?
It's a development, doubtebly for the best, considering that the family that runs them are ex circus family, very rich but have outdated views and are trying to greenwash their establishments.

The animals are not neglected, but they could improve and don't want to.

There were some news about the acquisition, but it all got covered by Fasano's "saddest gorilla in the world" death, Riú, which for a very brief moment made national news against zoos with, as always, a gross oversimplification.

A female Rothschild's giraffe named Lilith came from Dvůr Králové nad Labem to stay with the group of Cape giraffes that the zoo already has: they're all females so no risk of genetic pool pollution, but the zoo is aiming for a reproductive group of Rothschild's, so in the future the "aged" giraffes could get sent out.

Source of the news is their Instagram.

February news: arrival of a somali wild ass

July news: arrival of a southern three-banded armadillo called Gustaw, from Wroclaw, Poland, now hosted in the green house (I suppose the one with Aldabra tortoises); also a male white tiger called Thor from Safari Park Pombia (next to Novara, in Italy), it'll will join Fuyu, the female white tiger arrived from France in 2021

August news: a couple of Diana monkeys arrived from 2 north european zoos, 3 ostriches eggs hatched and a Barbary lion arrived from Liberec, Czechia

October news: 3 Barbery lionesses from the Netherlands, called Nandi, Zenani and Winnie

August news: .... and a Barbary lion arrived from Liberec, Czechia

Are you sure a Barbary lion arrived from Liberec?

Liberec keeps a middle-aged pair of Barbary lions, Terry and Shani. A local visitor posted pic of both of them still living at Liberec, just few days ago. link
