Paris Zoological Park Paris Zoo

1. Paris Vincennes Zoo - along with Hannover, Marwell and Whipsnade Zoos - was a major proponent of the reintroduction projects for Sahelo Saharan antelope in North Africa.

2. The latest reintroductions in Tunisia involved both scimitar-horned oryx and addax.

If new management will relinquish its addax and oryx herds, it will have done itself no favours. The entire collection is already in total disarray and in a sorry state as it is. No collection plan and yet giving quite a few species the chop. With no future masterplan and finances there is no shutting the door on yesteryear, nor can it look forward. A popular misconception in quite a few people is that the zoo is already closed.

Good zoos exist for recreation, education and conservation, by cutting out the very heart of its conservation message (okapi, Sahelo Saharan antelope) Paris Vincennes Zoo will become obsolete in the zoo community.

If Sarkozy is worth the salt of this earth he should make Vincennes a matter of pride for the nation! :D
I know all this because I worked in Vincennes but The Minsitère of Education National does nothing and here's the result.

during my studies, i've met an ethologist who has take part in the rebuilding of the paris zoo
actually it has been said that more that 50 million euros will be invested,
I really hope so, i've seen the project of rebuilding
it will be 5 biozone, (amazonia, america...)
the visitor will be really IN the biozone

I really hope that for ne time they'll do what the've said!!!

Zoo will close in 2009 for a period of 3 years

Hi Yoman,

I have read something to that effect. Do you know whether and how much funding has now been put to the project? What portion of the original Masterplan will be built in Paris PZ Bois de Vincennes?

Thanx,

K.B.

Thanks, Kiang, those plans certainly look impressive. I hope the final construction lives up to the artist's renderings (which as we all know often do not).

I hope when they finish this they will work on their smaller zoo at Jardin Des Plantes, because I was just there and it looks like it has not been improved since it was founded in the 1700's.

Yes, I am aware of that kiang, what I ment was that would it be possible for zoomania too upload the map that was the current map during his visit, sorry for the mis-understanding:)

The most important fact (which is posted a few times here): Parque Zoologique de Paris (Zoo de Vincennes) is closed (but will be rebuilt in a couple of years hopefully).

So in Paris itself, there is only la menagerie de jardin des plantes (no elephants, no rhinos, no giraffes, no hippos, no lions, no tigers but leopards, uncommon ungulates, orang-utans, reptiles, birds).

There is a Safari Parc outside of Paris (Thoiry) but it don't know how to get there with public transport and a small zoo (Zoo Bois d'Attilly in Ozoir-La-Ferrière).
