Peak Wildlife Park Peak Wildlife Park News

Sorry to bump an old thread, didn't really seem necessary to make a new one though.

Has anyone been in recent times?
I just came across his place googling, and the posts here aren't very positive.
But as it's been since 2019, I wonder if the place managed to pick themselves up.
It looks good on their FB page with good comments on it.
I believe that the reason for the posts being negative here are more to do with the difference between Peak and Blackbrook in regards to rarities and such. Peak itself is a lovely zoo however as suggested there is little in regards to rarities as many of the species kept are rather commonplace:)

That's alright, we don't mind that much, we're just looking for some new places to go and having a nice day out ^^

Thanks!
The boyfriend likes to go out riding, and I like to join when there is something at the end for me to do, haha (though he loves seeing animals too), so even if it's not that big, it'll still be a day out for both of us to enjoy.
Just don’t plan on it being a all day thing up the rd there is a lovely tea room that does nice food aswell lol

in that case its well worth the visit!! Lovely red squirrel walkthrough too - something that is rather unique in zoos barring british wildlife centre’s ‘the dell’ of course:)

*the copse not the dell my apologies!!!

I really like Peak for what it is.

The exhibits are large, well planted, and the signage is really good.

I like the fact that at the Wallaby talk, you can feed the wallabies, I like that four species of Lemur are in the walk through. They have a great Tapir and Penguin exhibit too.

Maneless Zebra's are cool and the marsh for Sika Deer is very pleasing.

There is no real main exotics and it's rather basic, but the Pizza cafe is great, the talks are informative and for me, visually they have some of the best exhibits in the UK, and only the Otter exhibit is poor.

I do like the Squirrel walk-through although I've never seen a Squirrel there! They probably have the friendliest Dik-Dik as well.

I disagree about not being able to spend a day there. If you like photography and listening to talks, and seeing the animals up close in great exhibits in picturesque settings, then I think that Peak is a lovely day out

The only thing I've criticised is they could do much more there and it's a shame they don't hold many animals you wouldn't find at a small zoo / farm park, especially when it's sister park Manor House, houses Gibbons, Rhinos, Tigers, Red Panda's etc, and again has the same amazing exhibits.

I love both parks for what they are, prefer Manor because of the species, but I always enjoy a day at both.

Didn't see this coming I must say.

Peak Wildlife Park have just posted on Instagram,

Summer 2023, Polar Bears
This is astonishing! Now I will definitely be going there for a first visit soon!
This is possibly even more surprising than Johnson's getting the UK's only Sloth Bears- again I have to ask - where were you Whipsnade?!

I will say that up until about a minute ago my general idea of Peak Wildlife Park was that of a perfectly decent place, though nothing special .. not much in the words of charismatic megafauna ...
So the announcement of the polar bears is something of a surprise ... but a very welcome one nonetheless !!

We visited recently and thought it was nice but thought the price was a bit dear however this changes my opinion massively lol

That was my first thought too!

But at the same time, wow...another polar bear holder?! And another draw to a smaller zoo. So not a bad thing at all, shall definitely visit when I'm up that way

Good thing with didn't go yet last week, hehe. Will be much nicer to wait now.
We wanted to squeeze in a trip to Yorkshire mainly for the polar bears, but this one will be easier and a shorter drive.

It sounds like an excellent new acquisition.

I wonder how they will manage the three when the two male cubs are older / at dispersal age and whether they’d split their new 5 acre space etc, rotate them for use of it or plan to move them around to other zoos.

Fantastic news. I have a trip to the Peak District booked for later in the year. Definitely have to visit now.

Would be excellent to get even more UK holders!
