Peak Wildlife Park Peak Wildlife Park opening and news 2015

I agree that Blackbrook closing was really sad. Seeing their financial struggle mainly due to a string of circumstances beyond their control was heart breaking.

I hope the new owners are able to make a go of it

PS - YWP will have apes soon, I have faith :D

Well if you call the owner having no idea of how to cost and budget then yes it was,a circumstance beyond their control,in fact his mother would be turning in her grave at what he did!Yes I know part of the park was badly damaged by a flood, but the Park was in very serious trouble well before that happened, that was just the final nail in the coffin for the Park!

Well given how well their current place I really hope this place does better, but I somehow thing it will still struggle

I was on about Blackbrook not having Apes not YWP,but yes i think YWP will get apes but don't hold your breath waiting for there arrival!!

The following is taken direct from their facebook page,

Welcome to Peak Wildlife Park’s new Facebook page. This is a great new project within the grounds of the old Blackbrook Zoo.
At Peak Wildlife Park we want your experience to be both enjoyable and inspirational alongside some of the world’s most endangered animals – our unique immersive habitats have healthy and happy animals at their heart and 2015 is set to be a big year for us and for our visitors.
Watch this space for more soon – we will be updating regularly as we unveil each animal experience – but for a teasing taster how do you fancy walking on the wild side in our incredible new Humboldt penguin walkthrough?
See you soon!

So as we can all see there is still no date for opening, also still no planning applications submitted,or atleast none that I could find in an hour of searching, and I do believe no zoo licence approved either!!!

Interestingly enough, given your comments about no planning applications nor licence approvals, when asked when they plan to open in a comment on the post, they said that:

We're still closed but working very hard to open towards the end of April with possibly a few preview days before.

They'll have to get their skates on!

I must admit I do get very tired of zoos announcing on their website or Facebook page variants of "We want your experience to be both enjoyable and inspirational alongside some of the world's most endangered animals." And then when I do visit, full of expectation, I find the same old meerkats, short-clawed otters, common marmosets, Burmese pythons, Bennett's wallabies, domestic Bactrian camels, Ankole cattle, etc, etc, never the "world's most endangered animals" that I was promised.

When I read that a zoo offers me the chance to be amongst "some of the world's most endangered animals", I want to see it live up to its hype by showing me Ethiopian wolf, mountain coati, kakapo, Spix's macaw, Howe Island stick insect, not another damn meerkat.

They can't possibly live up to that hype. With rare exceptions, that's all it is- hype.

I realise that it's unrealistic of me to expect to see kakapo, mountain coati, etc. (but why not?). I was merely giving those animals as examples of animals that really would justify zoos' claims to be sanctuaries for critically endangered species. My point is that zoos should not be claiming that they are offering us the chance to walk among some of the most endangered animals on earth, as so many of them do, until they can back up that claim. I think zoos can be wonderful places, but they must forget about giving the public the same boring menu, and concentrate on endangered species as their publicity machines say they do already, or people won't take them seriously. Too many zoo spaces are filled with species that are in no need of conservation.

Peak Wildlife Park opens in May 2015.

The collection consists of at least,

Asian short-clawed otter
meerkat
South American tapir
Philippine spotted deer
Negros warty pig
Bactrian camel
Waldrapp ibis
Humboldt's penguin
ring-tailed lemur.

There is also an Australian walkabout, red-necked wallabies I expect.

The penguin enclosure is reported to be one of the largest in the world and is a walk-through.

Plans for 2015 are indoor childrens' play area and a large African experience.

Blackbrook....

They won't get much of an African experience with that lot. Not too thrilled with the idea of a Penguin walk-through; nasty bitey things,
Penguins.

In the radio interview Veasey says that agouti are the worlds smallest species of deer??
Yes you did hear that right,I have just listened to it twice to make sure, have to say that I am shocked that a man of that knowledge, doesn't know an Agouti is a rodent and not a deer!!

Agouti are a bit larger than the world's smallest deer species in any case :p

I know that every zoo has to start from somewhere, but this is hardly a very exciting list, consisting almost entirely of common 'zoo' animals, maybe the deer excepted.
I'm pleased the place is re-opening, but I don't think I'll be rushing to visit!

Absolutely.

That is rather worrying coming from the man supposed to be co-running the new place. He should of known better. I am trying to think if he meant something else or said it by accident perhaps ?
