Blackpool Zoo Penguins return to Blackpool zoo

Apparently they have made a mistake about the penguins

It seems we got it wrong! Our new penguins are Magellanic or South American, NOT South African. However, there are 18 of them, both male and female and various ages, so we can't wait until the pool is finished. Won't be long, now.

Wonder if they are really Magellanic , more likely to be Humboldt's . I am not aware of any Magellanic in the UK unless there are any left at Belfast

That's interesting that they opted to import Magellanics, when I thought this species was not a priority for EAZA collections, when it would have been easier to acquire humboldts from other UK zoos.

The birds are coming from Madrid and Selwo according to their press release, so will be Magellanic as those are what they have. The zoos are all in the same owning group. Does that mean they are the only magellanics in the UK?

Possibly they only other place which may have some is Belfast, but i think we could see a few more in the U.K over the next few years.!
