A small group of us (visiting from England) were privileged to be shown the new area when we toured the zoo on May 5th.
It is a really major development for such a relatively small zoo and will totally transform the feel of the place. Although the species kept are mainly 'the usual suspects' - lion, giraffe, red river hog, zebra, etc. - we were impressed with what we saw. Full credit to Peoria for opening this fine exhibit.

Peoria Zoo has been AZA-accredited for 30 years and recently opened an African section in 2009 that basically doubled the size of the zoo. Would anyone care to post a short review? The zoo has America's only Giant Zambian mole rats (which they've bred) so who wouldn't want to visit!
