Remove the white lions, stop the white tiger breeding. In place of the white lions put a hyeana specices. Stop the feeding of the animals. Remove that naff amusment area, and expand the leopard house, plant it up and incorperate something that looks like a natural leopard habitiat. Instead of the rollercoasters and rides, have smaller animals, eg: african primates such as colobus monkey or diana monkey, some small carnivores, civits or ratel. Also biuld a large walk through aviary containing wetlands birds. Also remove the aye-aye from the t house, and biuld him a seperate, larger enclousure. Also biuld a new paddock for the cape buffalo.

Maybe they should go more theme parky and greener and instead of cars we all travel round the park on a monorail shaped like a giant snake

Rebuild most of the buildings. Although fine, most of the animal houses are out of date and could use updating. I think they should put the Amur leopards in an enclosure on the Eurasian reserve, maybe by the tigers, and get a pure subspecies of tiger. The enclosures would also use more stuff in them, e.g. climbing opportunities, trees etc (not just for the big cats, for all the animals). I think they should also expand the elephant exhibit, leave the current house to just the bull, build the cows a new house, and do like Dublin did and bring in a couple of pregnant females to give the current cows some experience with births and child rearing. They were hand reared so they might have a hard time. Also, female aye-aye The giraffes could also use a bigger hardstanding, as they're confined to that tiny yard all winter and wet weather long.

I cant see the park removing the amusement area as its a key source of income.
Someone said removing the white lions...Why? They are a publicity draw and also very special to the collection.
I fear that, after a short time, you may regret this decision

They have got Banteng but cannot remember which reserve they are in.what would you do?!
have a monkey jungle in safari, add gaur and indian rhino, aswell as banteng and nilgai to asian reserve and will post more later

I totally agree, when you look at the limited amount of space in captivity for any animal, why are we giving it up for inbred freaks, who's only serious role can be ambassadorial (i.e this is a white tiger, its relatives 5 / 6 sub species of tigers are all endangered please help them) and as a box office draw so that you can gain revenue and then educate people to the real plight of the tiger.
White lions are marginaly more credibal then the white tiger but given the that wild populations of most African lion sub-species are plummeting, the Asiatic lion remains critically endangered, and all the tiger sub-species are in trouble, should a credible animal collection really be keeping these specimens???
IMO no we should not, they should be implanted, vasectomised and in some cases euthanized, and allowed to die out, but lets face it there is a popultion of white lions bred for canned hunts, and more white tigers in the USA then there are sumatran tigers in existence, and while ever they make money they will continue to be bred, and the lucky ones will get shown off in zoo's around the world and the unlucky ones won't

They're in the reserve after the elephants, the one opposite the tiger complex.

Colchester did at one time have a pair of white tigers, and they do use it as a draw card, their recent news letter says "
Make sure you take a ride on the Tanganyika Road Train this weekend! Along with wolves, jackals and our beautiful white tiger"
Not come and see our skanky inbred pointless waste of space that sumatrans could have and partake in a vital breeding program for!
I can hardly comment though working in a zoo that until recently held a white tiger, whilst it was justified as a rescue case I dare say more will follow!
I guess its just going to have to be one of those things we like or dislike, bit like marmite, but I hate marmite and dislike white lions and tigers MUCH more

sorry to go off topic a bit, but has the white tiger at belfast died? if so, are there plans to replace him with sumatrans or amur?

Jack was euthanized on Thursday due to ill health, I don't work on the section so I do not know what the plans are, I HOPE the space will be devoted to an endangered speces but when it comes down to it the decision is down the section staff, section curator and zoo manager
Jack being the white tiger? If so, damn
Even if white tigers are somewhat unethical, he was still one of my childhood highlights whenever I visted the zoo (which was before they got any Amurs, I believe).
