Perth Zoo Perth Zoo species

Does Perth Zoo in fact no longer have the following species?

Black-and-white ruffed lemur?
Golden lion tamarin?
Red kangaroo?
Southern hairy-nosed wombat?
Sunda slow loris?

To my knowledge, the first four are still at Perth (and are still listed on the current map).

The zoo’s Sunda slow loris population has been reduced to a single male after the death of the female, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he passed away at any point. He’s seven years old, so not an old animal given they can live for 20 years - but there’s no guarantee he’ll live that long. In any case, he won’t be easily replaced.

The male Sunda Slow Loris was mentioned on their socials a few months ago, so he should still be there.

Went to the zoo today , can confirm they still have the black and white ruffed lemur , it’s in the old walk about area in small primates.
And I saw the slow loris as well.

didn’t see any golden tamarins.

I didn’t check about red kangaroos but the wombats were not on display, there’s a sign saying “like the seasons Perth zoo is always changing. We thankyou for your patience while we work on this exhibit”

Some more good photographic material from Les Zoos dans le Monde - Perth Zoo:

A nice photo of Tricia from late '80s or very early '90s

aswell as the cover of the 1995 edition zoo guidebook (I used to own the 1994 edition of the guidebook, despair about mispalcing it to this very day; and both editions have the same cover of Tricia with Putra Mas and either Permai or Teduh, I imagine the 1993 guidebook may have had the same beautiful cover photo of them too if the photo was taken within the first few months of Permai, Putra Mas & Teduh's arrival in Dec' '92):

there is also this 1985 zoo guidebook cover which features one of the zoo's Lar/White-handed gibbons in the cover photo, who believe the zoo were having quite the successful era with breeding them and had multiple individuals of them at the zoo, believe they were the most numerous gibbon species at the zoo during that time period, and thats saying something as at the time the zoo had all known gibbon species individuals living at the zoo, all known species until a few months prior in late 1984 when their lone kloss gibbon passed away, but I digress yet again:

Here's a colourised version of the clip you found, for your canva, if you want to use it @Jayden8763:

*Its good to see Shusheela 0.1 the younger Asian elephant at the start of the video and the older 33 year old long term PZ resident Ranee (I) 0.1 the (Asian) ele' starting at 2:48 in the video, thanks @Zoofan15 for the knowledge and info about which ele' was which. Pondo 1.0 the 'Common' hippo too (who came from to the zoo from Auckland Zoo where he was born), and some of the zoo's giraffes - maybe High (III) 1.0 from Kenya and the 1.1 pair from Zambia, who's names personally dont know (given 0.1 Tiny {1937-June 1973} was born the following year, wonder if her mother was already pregnant with her here in this footage?). Plus the Aus' or NZ' fur seal (likely an NZ/Long-nosed fur seals cheers @Osedax); and one of the zoo's original polar bears they had in the '30's (though like the chimpanzee(s), the handsome dingo trio and the male lion in the video, their enclosures were quite small - as was the norm back then sadly). Could be a colourisation error but those flamingos sure seem pale, is it perhaps a low diet supply of carotenoids that caused it, if not a b+w footage colourisation software error? as even Chilean flamingos dont seem to get quite that pale though I could very possibly be mistaken.

Great video!

The elephant at the start is the younger elephant, Shusheela. She was born circa 1928, placing her at eight years old in this video. She has nice tushes.

The elephant at the end (2.48) is Ranee, born 1903, so 33 years old - note the pink pigmentation on the tips of her ears, which increases with age.

I tried editing the footage a bit (just things like warmth and brightness) and at first i though they might have been fallow deer as they used to be at Perth zoo but i couldn't see any white spots, and the horns also sort of narrow it down to a few species and although there is no evidence for this i think that maybe they could be marsh deer or barasingha deer. (im probably wrong but still)
