Last Tuesday, a pair of camels got loose in Cedar Point. They were safely captured and patrons were not injured. PETA calls for the USDA to investigate Honey Hill Farm in Kentucky, which supplies Cedar Point with its petting zoo animals.

Odd really, no wild animals involved, camels and goats both being domestic. I realise PETA are against all animals in human care…..

Probably because the camel escape was on social media. Plus, Cedar Point hasn’t had wild animals in decades.

There is a link to PETA's formal complaint in the article. It looks like (from what they say in the complaint) the animals are exhibited at Cedar Point by the owner of Honey Hill Farm, rather than being animals owned by Cedar Point which were simply obtained from Honey Hill Farm. Presumably, the animals being the property of that person makes that person the one responsible for having them securely contained.

So, does that mean that if one zoo loans an animal to another zoo, and that animal escapes or something else happens to it, the zoo that lent it out has to be investigated, rather than the one where the animal escaped?

No.

According to the formal complaint, the owner of the camels is exhibiting them at that location so they are responsible for them. I have no idea whether that is true or not, but that is why they are calling for the supplier to be investigated over it.
