Animal rights extremist groups have gotten a bill into the US Congress to ban breeding of big cats. (I believe they exempted the AZA because they knew it was a fight they could not win - yet, but they will try believe me). This will cause the extinction of important captive populations and shut down many qualified, licensed facilities, which is exactly what they want. - I have just filled it out, cannot believe these animal rights freaks. Where do they think these species will survive in the wild?
 
They believe that housing exotic animals in captivity is fundamentally wrong. They are philosophically opposed to all forms of wildlife captivity, whether it serves conservation purposes or not.
 
Ah, I see. I must admit..the more I look at zoo webcams, the more I wonder if maybe zoos are not so good. The animals always look completely bored out of the minds! BUT I DO think Sanctuaries are great things. Yes, I signed the petition but just wanted more knowledge on it. I also have a problem with zoos....because they need to make decisions based on money & not necessarily in the best interest of the animal. Okay, thanks for replying.

Oh, I've just recently gotten into learning about animals & conservation. I can see where it seems odd that I said there's a problem with zoos..that's just a recent thought that I've had lately..I'm not sure what to believe exactly. I started following Zoo Chats on Twitter. I think zoos are great for like conservation..and as long as there's a proper enclosure. But I've recently read about an elephant that's the only elephant at that zoo....and from what I understand, elephants need to be in groups with other elephants..but the zoo has financial considerations & can't get another elephant....just things like that are coming to my attention. And I certainly think zoos are great for endangered species...like elephants, etc...since poachers exist & deforestation happens :-(
