I don't see why most of these animals would make bad pets.
Civets: When tame, it is similar to having a pet cat. They are affectionate and quite easy to care for (except you need to provide lots of fruit). I have seen many videos of pet civets and have friends with civets, although I would not have one if it was not tame.
Marmosets: Again only if it was tame and I would keep it in a large spacious enclosure, they may seem bad as they require a lot of care.
Skunks: Would be a bit like having a dog, it can be walked and is very affectionate like a rabbit.
Maras: They make great pets apparently, much like a dog as well, however I would keep it in an outdoor enclosure with places to dig.
Raccoon Dogs: Only if it was tame. Would be similar to a dog, however it cannot be taught tricks and should be kept in outdoor enclosures.
Miniature Pigs: I don't see how they make bad pets, however I would keep mine outdoors and the pigs would be supplied from Pennywells Pigs which are 0% potbelly (potbellies can be aggressive).

Most of the animals mentioned have been on programs such as Pets 101.
 
I've always liked flamingos, but even if I had some, they'd be a bit of a pain to care for. I don't know if they could be considered a pet, either, unless they were hand raised and bonded with me. Regardless, flamingos are kind of hard to acquire in the USA.

I've found a score of different herps that I would like to have.

I've enjoyed reading these so I'll post my own!

I have:
1.1 cats
0.0.1 corn snake (carolina)
1.0 axolotl (leucistic, though I'd love a WT or black)

I would love in the near-ish future:
A sphinx or maine coon cat
A dusky (preferably) or bronze-winged pionus
A bearded dragon
A rodent or two -- was looking into flying squirrels, but I love syrian hamsters so could just end up being that
A betta fish

Maybe eventually:
A skunk
A dog
Sheep
Cows
Alpacas
A ball python
Ferrets
Another parrot -- could be another pionus, or maybe a black-headed caique or cockatiel
Chickens
Some kind of crab species
Rabbits

(As others have said, not all at the same time!)

Not to hard to acquire at all, actually! Chileans and Caribbeans come up for sale semi-regularly down in states.

I had just done a quick search online and didn't find very many in private ownership. Any commercial companies were overseas (causing CITES problems). Where would I find some for sale?

That's actually the main site I looked at, but they don't do imports into the USA. However, through the same company (on a different site that is linked) I found that they do international trade and sale between zoos, private collectors, and a few others. I found everything from ornate hawk-eagles to cape grysbok on that site. Thank goodness I'm just a teen, or I would have spent a lot of money! There were flamingos there that were already in the US, so I'd be good in that department as well. Thanks for helping, though!
 
i already have a small reptile collection, i'd like to expand this a lot more. i also want to own some primate species and exotic cats, as well as foxes, wolves, hyenas, kinkajou and other 'zoo' species.
 
I'm considering to get myself some Crotalus mitchelli pyrrhus, but I have a hard time deciding what coloration to get. Red, white or blue? If I get a bachelor group sporting each, I can call the enclosure "The 'Merica" ;)

What kind of lorikeets?

I rather want an iris lorikeet myself, however as a seed eater it's not a typical lorikeet. I don't want any other lories unless I can build an outside aviary I can hose down. Cleaning up after parrots is difficult enough when the birds just eat seed/pellets.

Sorry, I was just trying to help you and I typed in mousebirds for sale and that is what came up.
 
I hope I didn't sound snippy. The fact that it's still the top result highlights how rare they've become in private hands. There's a few people breeding them who don't have websites, but the only place that still hand-raises them AFAIK is one place in Illinois, and they don't have them with any regularity.
