I can't speak for Arizona Docent, but when I said they were keeping the Sand Cats in a less accessible spot because they hate us, I wasn't being serious. I have no reason to believe the zoo hates "us" (whether that be the zoo chat website or individuals) or would put a small, nocturnal mammal in a secluded spot because they're trying to get back at someone or whatever.

I noticed that while you said you weren't referring to the EFBC, you didn't name the facility you were referring to. Being deliberately secretive to prove a point? Real nice. Where's that 'ignore' button...

The reason he was being secretive was to keep the secrecy of the institution which more than likely does not want information getting out about their off exhibit species.

I am well aware of that. But I doubt the zoo enjoys being criticized for caring for its species the best it can, jokingly or not.

I won’t hide that I was trying to prove a point (that is how you win an argument, or make an effective point in a discussion, after all ;)) but as @d1am0ndback states I’m not in a position where I would just go and reveal non-public information, unlike some members on this forum.

Cheetah brothers Rhett, Beau and Wilkes have been sent to Fossil Rim in Glen Rose in exchange for three other brothers. SSP decided the GWTW trio should be put into a breeding program and the Phoenix Zoo is no longer set up for that. I guess I'm glad I never became attached to them so while I'm bummed, I'm not 'heartbroken'.
 
In the book The Ark and Beyond (2018) there are 30 chapters/articles (all by different authors) and Chapter 13 is called The Phoenix Zoo Story: Building a Legacy of Conservation by Ruth A. Allard and Stuart A. Wells.

The chapter about the Phoenix Zoo is only 7 pages in length but it mentions some of the conservation success stories at the zoo such as the Arabian oryx, Chiricahua leopard frog and narrow-headed gartersnake. There is also mention that "only six facilities in the world breed the endangered black-footed ferret and the Phoenix Zoo is one of them". Does anyone know the other 5 facilities?

According to the Toronto zoos website they breed ferrets, and have since 1992. I’m not sure about the others, but the website did say that Toronto was the only one in Canada, so I guess that narrows it down a bit.:)

Phoenix Zoo, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Smithsonian National Zoo, Louisville Zoo, Toronto Zoo and a captive breeding facility north of Fort Collins, CO

The Arizona Center for Nature Conservation/Phoenix Zoo (ACNC) is sad to announce the death of Kitambi, our eight-year-old male African lion, who passed away Tuesday night, August 21...
