We dont have any young young males. We have a pair of 5 or 6 year olds. Would they do? If thats the case I will accept the trade on Torontos behalf. We will send you our unbreedable males and forgot the other trading... we can wait. But whats interesting there that you can send us in exchange. Love how we are doing the trading for the AZA.

I like your dillusion about any zoo giving up a pregnant cheetah. I can see that discussion. Ya sure give us your pregnant cheetah and all the guests who will visit just to see the babies... not really we are cool with it.

I realized I was wrong my cheetah count. We have twelve. Females Mahala, Zoey, Pinki, Shawari, and Mya. Males Bomani, Elio, Zeke, Luke and Onyx. And two new arrivals from African Lion Safari who likely belonged to Toronto anyway but were on loan. Very unlikely that they didnt belong to us. So unless someone died recently we have 12. Not all go on exhibit and the rest are at the breeding center on site. I believe if I remember correctly Mahala is the only breedable female and Im not sure who her possible breeding partners are I think Bomani and Elio but Im not certain. There is also the possiblities of the returning cheetahs. We will likely have to wait things out though and when we are down to very few cheetahs or combined with African Lion Safari get down in numbers to shift around the older animals and spread them out then get some new stock in from South Africa.

Maybe the zoo is secretly hoping for wild dog pups so they can open up the cheetah exhibit for surplus animals? I dont know, never been.
 
Sure, we'll take the 5/6 year olds. Better than nothing. And yeah, who needs AZA when we can just do all the trading ourselves. hahaha. Wow. 12 cheetahs. I would be in total cheetah bliss to be around that many cheetahs. The most I've ever been around at one time was 3 at the Safari Park. I think that was the IT moment for me with Cheetahs. Hearing one of them purr away like she was a giant housecat. And to have her just less than 2 feet away. <sigh> Anyway....hahaha. I get off-topic easily.

I doubt they're hoping for wild dog pups. Not out of that group. There's 4 of them in that exhibit and they're all males. I hear tell there's a female on the property somewhere with another male, but I've never seen them. If it's true, she's behind the scenes and, well, we don't really have a breeding center, so I don't know. hahaha.
 
Ok with all males ya I would have doubts about pups too. Thats what I get for commenting when I dont know the zoo. I suggest males breed with each other. Although if you could get them to breed with each other you would really have something to see. The first pups born to an all male group... That would be big.

I could give you those males but thats Bomani and Elio and if they are to breed I kind of need to keep them... Unless... Can we have your maybe there wild dog pair? I want wild dogs... have no exhibit for them but want them. I can make room... Want some baboons along with all of our other cheetah males?

Realistically we only have 3 on exhibit together max. Brothers Bomani and Elio and one of the females. Im fairly sure thats the combo.

And dont worry about sliding off topic. I do it all the time too. And I think your slide was short because its always nice to share a personal memory that brings you great pleasure. I'd have loved to experience that moment too. Hopefully the memory made your day better after I bummed you out.
 
You're sweet. I she'd some tears this morning over the loss of Juma and I likely will shed more...i can't help it, it's what girls do. We cry hahaha...but these posts back and forth about trading cheetahs and male african wild dogs having pups has made me smile, too, and I appreciate that. Thank you.

If we do have a pair around here somewhere that are capable of reproducing, yes, you can have them. I will even deliver them myself. I'd love to visit Toronto. I've only been to Vancouver and I wasn't as into zoos as I am now, which totally sucks because I could've hit Woodland Park Zoo, Point Defiance and whatever else while in Washington. I probably wouldn't have gotten as lost as I did trying to find lighthouses.

Thank you all so much for the kind messages or support regarding our cheetahs. All of the staff here at the Zoo greatly appreciates the outpouring of support from our community. The cheetah brothers were a favorite among so many Zoo guests and staff alike.

We wanted to also talk about Arizona Gives Day, which is tomorrow April 9, since we know so many people here are big supporters or the non-profit Phoenix Zoo and what we do. We hope you will consider making a $10 (or more) donation to the Zoo tomorrow and will help us spread our Arizona Gives Day message. Last year we were able to raise $5,000 and received an additional reward of $4,000 for coming in 7th place for the Most Donors Overall. This year we are hoping to surpass what we raised last year while also trying to come in first place in the Most Donors Overall category, which would grant us an additional $18,000!

To be successful we really do need the help of our community and supporters. If you are able to donate $10 and get ten family members or friends to do the same you can help raise over $100 for the Zoo while also greatly helping us in the Most Donors category.

It was previously stated that construction on the new tiger exhibit would begin in April, 2014. There are only two days left in April. Does anyone know if they started?
 
As often happens with large projects there have been some unforeseen delays, and construction has not yet started on the new tiger exhibit. We are in the process of finalizing the plans and acquiring the necessary permits. We hope to begin construction during the summer.

We will be sharing status updates of the construction on our Facebook page once construction begins.
 
Thanks for the news! I was curious however to know what we could exactly expect for with the elephant portion of the tiger project?
 
We won't have many details to share until we've received the necessary permits from the city of Phoenix to finalize our plans. We're ready to go! We just need to go through the proper channels before construction can begin.
 
Severe Flooding in the Metro Phoenix area has resulted in the zoo being closed today.The zoo has reported that all animals are okay and are being well cared for.

Wow. I think this is the first time I've ever heard of the zoo being closed due to bad weather and flooding. I live less than a mile away so I can attest that the roads are bad and it's going to keep raining off and on today. I was afraid my car engine was going to get flooded trying to get to work. My neighborhood, which includes the zoo, does not flood usually.
