"Basse". What a nice Scandinavian name for a binturong ;). He looks like at Basse too :p

I have to tell you sebbe67, it's great to hear about private zoo and animals

Looks like the first International Convention of Zoobeat members will be held at Sebbe's zoo!

Toddy: Yes I thought it was time to bring in some scandinavian influence in my animal collection, the name suits him as well:)

Pedro: A visit to me here in Myanmar would probably be possibly, but as its quite some time before you go we better keept in contact, who knows, I may finally ruin myself:rolleyes:

Writhedhornbill: Yes the breeder I bought him from had named him, it was some strange Thai name and I have unfortunely forgot it, the english translatation would be something like blue sky (I have a vague memory of) however and maybe I should name name him that.

Everyone else is also most welcome to come and visit me and a gathering of zoobeat members would surely be nice.

Aim now back from Phuket, being there over the past days to pick up the peacock-pheasants. They were kept in quarntine for just for a few days which suprised me given the fear of birdflu spread. No border controll when crossing over to Myanmar as usually so it was no problems getting the birds in the country (not strange illegal animal trade flourish:mad:) so now I have to go away for a few days to Rangoon just to get the pappers checked, stupid system.

The same breeder keeps 3 other species of peacock-pheasants and I expect I will have more contact with him in the future.

The Grey-peacock male, the females have not gone outside while I have been standing by the aviary, the stay inside their indoor encloaser. Aim going to put some more plants into the aviary soon, may be able to breed them soon as the male is displaying almost daily already.

Rotschild or Mountain Peacock-pheasant. Funny birds, totally different from the Greys, much more interesting and already a favoruite among the childrens.

Here is the Tonkin Green peafowls in the quarantine, I may end up keeping them all. I have found a Thai bredder interested in immature birds, all mine is maturing and soon will be out in the aviary for breeding purpose.

I though it was about time for a update whats going on in my zoo at the moment. No birds has died during the few past weeks and no new animals has been added to the collection

1. My Marbled Cat male, George, has settled in well in his encloaser and its difficult to spot him most of the time as he tends to hid in the thicker vegetation of the encloaser during most the days.

2. The Binturong itself has change the iron cage to his own encloaser now and becuase he is tame it will take some time before he will be able to spend all in his time in the encloaser.

3. I have had a few looks on both the nesting Trumpeter and Rufous Hornbill females, the Trumpeter laying on 2 eggs and the Rufous on 1 egg. Hopefully all three eggs will hatch and that all three hatchlings will survive.

4. One of my Pheasant pigens is on a nest, as is 2 of my Green Magpies and 1 lesser adjutant.

5. I have seen one of my Great Hornbill pairs mating and the female will hopefully vanish in the next box.

6. I am building on two avaries at the moment. Has not come a long way with either.

"Asian themed wetland"

Aim building on a very large encloaser (estimate it will take up to 3 months to complete it) at the moment in which I want to create some sort of Asian themed wetland or lake encloaser, exclusively with Asian species. I have already start building on a pond so aim sure it will at least contain water birds.

Here is a list of what aim is interested in keeping in this aviary.

Some Asian Stork: With Milky, Oriental white or Asian openbill, all three being top candidates.

Heron: Some small species such as pied, Indian pond heron, Chinese pond Heron, black-crowned or Malayan night heron

Ibis: Indian Black or Black-headed Ibis.

Whistling duck: Lesser, Spotted if possible.

Other ducks: Ruddy or Radjah Shelduck, Comb duck, Indian spot-bellied duck, Cotton Pygmy goose, Grey Teal and Philippine duck are all being considered at this point. Availability will also play in.

Rail: Slaty-legged or black tailed crake, Banded or barred rail, purple swamphen

Shorebirds: Great thick-knee, Indian Courser, red wattled or river lapwing.

Others: Possibly some species of Green Pigeon.

Hornbill aviary 9

This will be my biggest hornbill aviary I have built so far, and will look really spectcular when its finished.

I have not heard much from Malaysia about requring Helmeted Hornbills and they have not had any hatchlings for quite a while now (not since December).

Other species in my mind is Rhinoceros or Sulawesi wrinkled hornbill.

Great plans Sebbe, keep up the good work!!

I'd like for you to get Asin Openbill and milky stork, but that's my personal preference!!:D:D It is your zoo!!

Good luck with your hornbills BTW!

Yes I have the feeling that the avaries Iam building on will be great.

Regarding the storks, I will unforuntely only have room for 1 species if I would like to combaine it with several other species. And I will pnly be able to keep a smaller colony, 5-6 pairs.

My main concern with Asian storks is that they looks quite dull in the non-breeding season, the juvenile birds also looks quite boring I think. Therefore I may end up trying to get the species which I find more attractive, and which works best with other species.

If that is your thought, the I would have thought that milky wold be the best...

You could also put red wattled lapwing, Pied imperial pigeon and White collared kingfisher in there too (like San Diego zoo)

My zoo is getting more and more popular in this part of the country, from being a place which only my neigbhours knew about it is now one of the biggest holiday attractions, and 3-5 groups of school children visits each day now, unfortunely I work elsewhere during most of the days and dont have much contact with the visitors but the impressions from the visitors seems to be very positive.

The rumours of the zoo has also meant that I have got plenty of offers to take in plenty of unwanted "pets" and abandoned animals. I have been asked to take about everything from toads up to gibbons and sambar deers. Unfortunely I dont have enough encloasers/avaries to house all animals offered to me and sadly I have to turn away many animals, especially larger ones such as gibbons, larger cats and deers. I have cleared a new area of my property and will soon start buying more encloasers. At the moment I have over 15 animals living inside the house as I dont have any encloasers for them yet.

Only 2 days ago I made a "homevisit" to a old man as he had asked me a few months previously if I could take on his animals, he was to old to care for them properly himself. When I got there it showed that he had many more animals then that I had expected, it included 3 leopard cats, 4 common Palm civets, 2 Small Toothed Palm Civets, 1 squirrel and over 20 parrots. I know got most of them here at home but about half of the parrots was either very old or in bad shape so I put these to sleep.

Here is a few photos of my new animals

Increadibly charamestic animals, all 3 being very tame unfortunely but 2 males and 1 female so I hope to get them breeding as soon as they have a encloaser (they live in quarantine at the moment).

CivetCat1.jpg

1 of the Common Palm civets, in poor shape. Being blind on one eye and a badly infected leg.

It would be great if you could take more unwanted ex-pets, these animals need a good home so badly and many of these species are endangered in the wild now.

Good luck with your plans!

Good luck! And your animals are really wonderful!

BTW, there seems to be some zoo professionals on this forum. Maybe your zoos might be interested in Sebbes animals - and Sebbe in giving them?

I know from experience that whenever somebody takes care of wild animals, you are flooded with incredible number of unwanted pets, injured animals etc. So zoo with a contact in SE Asia could get quite interesting breeding stock!

:)
