I just came across this page recently - very interesting. I had no idea that they'd been kept in captivity for any significant time recently. I'm also astonished that their carapace can be lifted to show fur underneath - I had no clue.
If anyone's interested, the captive longevity record is 4 years 4 months for an animal from Argentina which died at the Brookfield Zoo in 1971. (Weigl, 2005)
