Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium News 2025

Should give the facility room to bring in another bull and breed Angelina to continue Savannah's matriline! Maybe Tendaji Samson or one of Mabu's sons in bachelor herds
Again, we don't need speculation for what bulls you think *should* move to the zoo. Anyone unfamiliar with the elephant threads probably does not know which elephants you are talking about.

Is there any news article specifically mentioning okapi coming to the zoo. I'm not sure where you're getting this information.
Post #32 on the previous page;
I haven't seen it noted anywhere, but I read that the zoo plans on phasing out Rhinos. Once their current male passes, they will be replaced with warthogs, meerkats and a new leopard exhibit . I also read that the new giraffe barn will include pygmy hippos, okapis, and red river hogs.

It doesn't surprise me they are phasing out rhinos at the zoo but I would be surprised if they don't reappear at ICC. It has long been in the plans to add rhino to the farm. In fact land has been loosely set aside for where a barn would go and they were to be the next after all the elephant facilities were done (most expensive first). However with the turnover at all levels of staffing regarding the ICC in last half decade plus, im sure is the reason its been put off.

Does Anyone know what will eventually take the rhinos place?
Warthogs.

Hot take: as much as I love seeing elephants at Pittsburgh Zoo, I am wondering why they don't just go all in on the ICC and move rhinos in the elephant exhibit instead futureproofwise. The ICC's a one-and-a-half hour drive from the zoo anyways, the distance is comparable to the drive between Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo as far as going to see elephants.

That would be a great exhibit for Warthogs, it seems similar to what Cincinnati did when they phased out their Indian rhinos and they moved their Visiyan Warty Pigs to the old rhino exhibit.
