Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Pittsburgh Zoo News 2015

Reading that article it really sounds like the Top of the World exhibit is on the back burner.

No it is not. The Top of the World was what they nicknamed the land where North America was located years ago. The hospital was first to be built in this area. Now The Islands will open in a portion of this area in a couple months. A tropical jungle area will open in a portion of this land likely next year. A mountain exhibit could follow. A new reptile and amphibian building will be part of this four-year expansion as well.

The zoo is also currently finalizing the new 1 acre elephant barn and nearly 50 acres of elephant yards at the ICC that should be done by the end of this year

Here is an update from my visit from the zoo today:

The giraffe exhibit is closed because they are storing pipes in the edge of the exhibit.

Construction continues of Jambo Grill and The Islands. It will be interesting to see if Jambo Grill opens on time.

Because of Safari Plaza construction there are now tables in African Outlook as well as the open portion of the plaza.

All bear grotto exhibits are now closed. Moats have not all been filled in. The outer fences are gone. The first one has part of the exhibit edge removed and currently has part of the outdoor grill portion of Safari Plaza there. The three other exhibits have been completely filled in. They look like dirt hills with trees and bushes planted there now. The path by the exhibit will be removed and relocated.

The PPG Aquarium’s Deep Ocean Tank will reopen this summer. Some of the fish are being held in the stingray touch pool.

Arctic Express now has a tent next to it selling funnel fries.

The Dippin’ Dots across from PNC Pavilion now has a tent next door selling hamburgers and hot dogs.

I have not heard anything about him going on exhibit. Large Marge and her fellow sand tiger sharks are still on exhibit. There were no signs about coming this spring and summer like there was for The Islands, Jambo Grill, and the Open Ocean exhibit in PPG Aquarium. His future exhibit will have to be cleaned because the exhibit is full of algae since it is at an appropriate temperature with the sharks in there. I will post when I here anything. I am a member and I would like to think we would hear an update soon.

Jungle Trails featuring giant anteaters, ocelots, & tree kangaroos will be opening in 2016 at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.
