Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium News 2017

BIG NEWS:
Leela the siamang gave birth yesterday-3rd zoo birth this year (not the one I said would be born in September) I saw the baby today, you can see them through the indoor exhibit

I found out The zoo actually has 2 red ruffed lemurs- I will put them on the off exhibit list because they go out right before TFC closes

No one knows when the sea otters will be back

Since the two black/white ruffed lemurs are elderly, the zoo is planning on getting sifakas to replace them

Fun fact- the zoos male black and white ruffed lemur is the oldest in captivity aging at 33 years old

Apparently conservation Solariums name has changed to compass point or something like that

Nyalas are still off as I know

Walked by sea otter exhibit, first pool is about halfway filled.
Zoo still has five cotton topped tamarins, but apparently new mesh was put up in the last few years and they are small enough to actually get through.
Our ocelot, magic, is in a breeding program and the female will arrive within the next six months.

The nyalas are apparently on exhibit rotating with the damas and ostriches, but I haven't seen them.

The zoo has two baby Virginia opossums (9-10 weeks old) will go into education center they are in quarrentine and are the only animals in quarantine. They are expected to leave by the end of august. I will be putting them on the 2018 list as I said I wouldn't put animals in quarantine that are in when I write it.

Also jungle odyssey is already getting renovated this winter and everything going on is totally ridiculous, I could make a thread or a long essay on all the problems and stuff I might consider it.

I would be interested to hear what changes they are making to Jungle Odyssey. Landscaping or configuration changes?

Also, if your male lynx is still the one that came from Philadelphia Zoo, his name is Odr.

They are putting in a better Pygmy hippo pool and that is all I know for certain

At the zoo for the first time, and my first time visiting this horrible city;) (actually the view was quite nice). So far I have footage of the entire left side of the zoo, Forest Passage, African Savanna, Tropical Rainforest, Jungle Odyssey, Islands and I even have individual attention on Coolio swimming along the tunnel

My first visit was an absolute success. I expected much less of this due to it receiving more criticisms than positive notes but I thought the zoo was very decent. I got all the footage that I promised, and now I can rotate published videos between 3 separate zoos.

If you would like any info for the vids feed free to message me :D

The calf would honestly be better off euthanized. I know a lot of elephant caretakers and none have heard issues with elephants "teething". To me its a cover up for pulling the calf prematurely to make money off it at the zoo. And the calf being premature is ridiculous. The average pregnancy is 22 months so 21 months isnt unheard of and Seeni is a little elephant to begin with. Calves should not be much over 200 lbs at birth. This zoos reputation with elephants has gone way down hill. Did they ever even publicly release that Umasi was put down almost 2 months ago? And should have put him down earlier than that after having very bad joint problem for months prior.
