Hi all, I’m new to ZooChat. I’m a Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium regular. I try to go a few times a summer (once in early May or June and once in August) and once in early fall (September or early October). So does anyone have any ideas for what species may go in Compass Point and the Mountains?
Also, according to the zoo’s app, the Pittsburgh Zoo got a male Amur Leopard, named, Roman. I think they want him to breed with Semba.
Is Mai, the female Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon still at the zoo? I didn’t see her when I visited the zoo in June and haven’t seen any pictures of her either.
Mai has died. She was getting up there in age. Picard will be getting a new companion or two in the future.
Pittsburgh-born siamang Cahya is being successfully introduced to her grandparents and her uncle in Erie to raise her. Erie’s two female white-cheeked gibbons will move to Pittsburgh to become Picard’s new companions.
This is wonderful news about Picard. When will they officially come to Pittsburgh?
They’re not putting in orangutans, I have no idea what their future plans with the species areRoman and Semba are paired for breeding. The zoo is still planning Compass Point. Maybe 2020 or 2021. The Mountains will come afterwards. Compass Point is complex with an unusual assortment of species that usually would never go together. Manatees, orangutans, and pangolins for example. The entrance and the front village area is also going to be renovated.
