Pittsburg's National Aviary

Can't say that i have, i looked at the website some months back, when i was still undecided about the DC trip, did a little research, and it seems they have a large quantity of birds, but limited number of species, they might have 100 ducks, 50 pigeons, you get the idea, it just doesn't look good when you call it the National Aviary, this is a magestic country and it deserves a better National Aviary, not too sure about the National aquarium either, at least the National Zoo is in construction mode, and hopefully in some years it can live up to the name, it seems that the only National thing in the US that lives up to expectations are the museums based on what i have read, anyways sorry for going off subject, but the
National Aviary might be no better than your average small zoo's bird exihbit placed together.

The National Aviary has about 250 different species of birds, many of which cannot be seen anywhere else in the Nation.
If you were to count their flock of doves, then the bird total jumps to around 800, just to counter what PP said.

You can see in their website that they are the largest bird collection housed in a stand-alone facility, which explains the National Designation.

Being in Pittsburgh, I can honestly say that is a great place to visit.
The wikipedia page has some decent info on it that tends to be a bit less partial: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Aviary]National Aviary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

HTH!

I've been there for a while doing some work, and it's a cool place. It's not big or eccentric but it displays quite a few interesting species. They have some nice exhibits (rainforest, etc.) and they have plans to remodel the place... I'm nor sure if it already started, but looking at the plans it seems it'll be great. I think if you're around it's worth a visit!
