Yes. Fallow deer, capybara, african leopard, dik dik, curassow, tamandua and some others have already been updated for 1.6.

Yeah quite a few have, though it'll be awhile before most of them are compatible again I suspect.

For sure. Various species of mongoose or even rodents based on the meerkat could come, as well as many species of fox with the fennec (hoary, bat-eared, crab-eating... Maybe even bush dogs).

This is literally how all mods work (probably you already know this but I will repeat it), and this one is about the only one that makes your game do weird things like files that crashing and others.
