Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

why is unrealistic? I think it would be good.

DLC packs don't exactly load up on animals. Even the animal-only packs only have seven habitat species and one exhibit species. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave us extra for an aviary pack, since a brand new game feature isn't very exciting if there are only a few species to use it with. But twenty sounds way too optimistic, lol.

That said, if the aviaries themselves are added as part of the base game early enough and an aviary DLC only exists to give us a variety of options, we could expect to see birds added in later DLCs.

My guesses for an aviary animal roster? I bet we get a large fruit bat and then the rest are birds. I'm pretty confident we'd get a bald eagle and a macaw or two. Definitely an owl of some kind, but hard for me to decide on a species, there are a few majorly iconic ones. I think the snowy owl would have a good shot since it's iconic and would add diversity to the arctic selection. I wonder if lorikeets are a possibility, since walk-through lorikeet exhibits are so popular these days. Some kind of wading bird, too... There are so many good choices, it's hard to guess!

i'd like to see the bald eagle and snowy owl as birds of prey, here in brazil we have beautiful macaws, i'd like to get the blue and yellow macaw and scarlet macaw, the rest could be a kiwi and a red crowned crane and white stork.

After last update some modders datamined the game for modding porpoises, and some juicy leaks were found, if you want these information read the rest of my reply, if you want to be surprised by the devs, ignore this.
Also these are 100% legit informations, you can literally find these by yourself in the files:

SPOILERS AHEAD!

New content:
5 new file folders have been found, meaning that official support won't stop until the end of 2022, unless sales are pretty low or something drastically bad happens, 5 new DLCs are on their way.

New enrichments:
2 new enrichments have been found, an underwater log feeder and a ball hoops for pools.

New scenery:
6 new scenery items have been found, a coastal mural walls, 2 sizes of a Torii gate, east asian moss patches, zen pebbles, a led sign and a drawbridge.

New ride:
A single new ride has been found, a ferry ride.

Unknown objects:
These are placeble items that don't have tags related to their functions, so they could be either enrichments or sceneries, the buoys and different hot springs.

New animals:
Only 2 animals have been found in the files, or at least, their signs, not the proper animals, anyway these two are the very hyped capybara and the Lord Howe island stick insect.

New behaviors and mechanics
Flying mechanics and behaviors have been found in the files, such as "landing animation", "avoid obstacle", "flock behavior" and more.

My conclusions:
One DLC seems to be highly Japanese themed, people say it's "northeast asia" due to the moss patch name, with the hot springs, torii gate and zen pebble reinforcing the Japanese theory.
Another DLC seems to be coastal themed, perhaps aquariums? But if we want to look at it realistically it could very well be a pack with semi-terrestrial marine animals, so other seals, penguins, otters and maybe a sea turtle?
The drawbridge is the only thing that people can't really connect with any oack, perhaps it's for the ferry ride, to me it could be for a medieval themed pack.
Also, flying animals are really coming, it's not known if in the near future or next year, but it's still really cool to see them being in the work.

Japan/Northeast Asia pack sounds plausible to me. Even if the building theme is Japanese, the pack might go for a broader theme to have more animal diversity. (like the Africa pack having Moroccan decor)

Edit: Say, I wonder if a Japan pack could finally give us the ability to build koi ponds, lol.

I wouldn't count on aquariums, but another aquatic pack with semi-terrestrial creatures sounds possible. Maybe the capybara will appear in that. If we get another aquatic pack, I think the walrus will be a shoo-in!

A Medieval themed pack sounds really unlikely to me. Like, I wouldn't say that there are a lot of animals we strongly associate with Medieval times. Definitely sounds like a ferry thing.

Speaking of ferry, that's an interesting addition considering that we already have a boat ride. What would a ferry do differently? Is it just the same concept with a different skin? Is it a hint to fully aquatic animals being updated?

Given that kiwis are flightless, adding them as part of an aviary pack would take up space for a species that could actually use it, lol. I'd definitely like kiwis at some point though!

I think the Spix's macaw has a good shot. It's pretty, it has fans but also needs more awareness, and as a species that only exists in captivity, it's a good example of something that can be saved by zoos.

I'm having a lot of fun with the North America animals pack! Really gotten me back into the game. I might even attempt a building habitat again.

could you please send me the link?
A link to what? It's datamine, it's not from 4chan or any other syte, although you can check out Leaf's video about it.

Also update on the aviary mechanics, turns out they're just the ambient pigeons animations from Planet Coaster, we found out there's the whole PC code inside of Planet Zoo

I am a fanatic supporter of the theory that they'll give us some birds for free, since they're a basic feature and should've been in the game since the start, maybe they will make an aviary pack to expand the roster even more, but I haven't seen an exhibit pack yet so idk, we'll have to see:p I also wish they added birds to the previous packs, so when we get aviaries an aviary animal will be added to every pack, raising its value and already expandimg the roster.

I mean, to be fair, there are plenty of birds that could have been added even without an aviary system. Beyond what's already been covered in-game, there's other gamefowl, waterfowl, cranes, storks, herons, ibises, pelicans, ground hornbills and the secretary bird to name but a few.

Really I don't get why they haven't added more. If we can have flamingos and peafowl then pretty much any of the groups you listed are possible. The rigs and animation sets really shouldn't be that different or difficult.
Then again, in typical zoo builder fashion the game is predominated by mammals, and only the handful of classic birds get added. However, I sincerely hope we do get some form of an aviary pack. For how realistic the game is in just about everything, I can't think of any good reason to exclude birds. If Frontier can do pterasaurs, they certainly should be able to give us flying birds in some capacity.

don't worry i just watched the video, that's really awesome we will get new animals hopefully.

spix macaw would be a good addition, since they are native to my country(Brazil), i heard they plan to release them in the wild in 2022.

This is super disappointing news for me. I really hope we do eventually see aviaries, it's my #1 request since it was clear pre-launch we wouldn't see any flying birds.

I mean, I'm also a fanatic supporter of receiving content for free, but I don't think this is how the world works, especially since it's such a big request. Also, following your logic, we should've had the Polar Bear, Jaguar, Calfornia Sea Lion and African Penguin (among others) for free as well as they're super iconic and/or zoo staples. Never say never, but this is an as unlikely request as any I've heard so far.

When and what confirmed this?

It was never a rock-solid confirmation, but I'd argue it was very easy to infer based on PZ's pre-release marketing strategy.

Pre-launch spanned the entire time between the original announcement and the launch of the game (since we didn't have the full roster known and available for the beta). Since flying would be such a marquee feature, once we had 50% (it's not about the exact number, somewhere between 25-75 would also be fine) of the animals and features confirmed, it was clear to me we wouldn't see flying birds.

If PZ had included flying since launch, I'm fairly certain we'd have screenshots, animal confirmations or other showcases (videos?) way before the launch. Maybe even in the first screenshots of the game.

Oh you meant in the base game, not the game in general. Wasn't clear on your initial snippet there. Yes, I concur with you re flying in the base game. I'm ever hopeful we'll get a pack adding flying mechanics since it's near-confirmed we'll get another 5 DLC. Especially now that JWE2 contains flying mechanics.

Yeah appreciated, reading back my comment I notice it could be construed both ways.

No aviary mechanic? That's a bummer, but I'm not surprised. There are so many potential animals the game can have as it is, I don't fault them for not wanting to deal with a whole new selection. (I also think that an aviary pack would suffer to a similar problem to an aquarium pack, albeit to a lesser degree: hard to add enough animals to please players and really make the feature fun and varied to use) Oh well, if they make a PZ sequel someday it would be a great thing to add.

I hope we at least get more birds that can be implemented without an aviary system. Secretary birds would be wonderful. Some kind of swan or other waterfowl would be great, especially if they can share habitats with other species. Crane or stork of some sort too. There's speculation on a Japan/Northeast Asia pack so I could totally see a red-crowned crane addition.

No more sequels please, PLEASE, is this their way now? Releasing very hyped but half finished games? That f***ing sucks and I sincerely hope Frontier doesn't pull up a JWE2 move here

Isn't that the way of everything now? If it makes money and it's successful it gets a sequel or an entire expanded universe? :p
