Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

I think this is a great pack. Despite not getting some animals I want (echidna and peccary), most other make up for it very well. However…

My concern with this pack is that the sheer amount of ungulates could mean that we might not get a new ungulate in the next few updates. But then again, having one taxa be over represented never prevented the return of the same taxa on the next pack.

If frontier is going to make similar animal packs with overrepresented taxa, than I hope they do choose an under represented taxa such as primates or reptiles.

Fingers crossed that we do get the Blackbuck in another future pack as it has been highly requested for a long time. There are a few other antelope species I would still like to see including Dik-Dik, Duiker, Eland, Kudu, Roan Antelope, Blesbok, Sitatunga etc.
i get your point, but there are another underrepresented regions that need more animals, and we're still needing more monkeys and birds.

Considering the last pack contained a gibbon, I'm not very surprised they took a break on primates. I'm sure we'll get more down the line. If they continye the biome cycle maybe after they can do some taxonomic packs.

The last pack also had an ungulate yet we have five with this one.

The next pack has been announced - 'Arid Animal Pack'. It contains the dromedary camel, addax, dama gazelle, African crested porcupine, sand cat, black rhinoceros, Somali wild ass and desert horned viper.

More information can be found in the link below:
Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack Releasing 20 June

Honestly really solid but also disappointing at the same time. "Aridlands Animal Pack" but Africa/Middle East representives only is a bit short-changing the pack. I like most of the ungulates but it's another mammal dominated pack, couldn't even get Kori Bustard or Secretarybird. Another snake is nice, but another viper instead of a cobra or the Black Mamba?
I mean I like most of the included species here and I'll get it eventually but at the same time I'm irked with the inclusions for being along the same old lines.

I am satisfied with most species of this pack, other than Dama Gazelle, I rather have Great Bustard (Kori Bustard is fine, but I prefer Great Bustard b/c it can fit with both Asia and Europe themes), we do need more Birds

If I was a betting man, I’d say the rather glaring omission of a hamadryas Baboon HEAVILY points at an autumn mountains/highlands DLC containing the gelada..

Otherwise it just seems a bit nuts to exclude the Baboon.

Really glad with the pack though. While it’s not exactly a big hitter, it quietly adds a lot of species that people really wanted, but weren’t confident would definitely make it into the game. The addax is a ZT2 legacy animal and common in zoos, the wild ass is common in zoos and another equid, the black rhino pretty much completes the rhino roster, the porcupine was a must, as was the dromedary. Really it’s only the sand cat and Dama that weren’t particularly in my radar for wishlists. However, both are reasonably common in zoos so I have no distaste towards them.

Personally I might have squeezed a Sulcatta tortoise in over the gazelle but alas.

You aren't incorrect about the facts, nor did I intend to suggest that overrepresentation isn't something the game does. I love primates but I can see why a zoo game would be more interested in ungulate diversity and I would argue I usually see more ungulate fanatics than primate fanatics. Also it's easier to reuse ungulate animations than primate animations since many of them have more unique movement.

Clarified on the forum that it's the addra gazelle rather than the nominate dama gazelle.
Interesting choice! Interestingly, zootierliste seems to call the addra and mhorr gazelle the same subspecies (both N. dama mhorr) and then calls N. dama ruficolis the Nubian Red-Necked Gazelle. Error?

Based on that, it seems like the ruficolis subspecies is much rarer in captivity.

Glad to get more ungulates with the new pack, but still I wish there was more diversity. Apparently they had to spend a lot of time working on the porcupine so they made a lot of ungulates for something easier and less time-consuming.

Source? Or just general chatter?

I think the last two DLCs have been notable in the fact that we’ve had a few ‘cloney’ species they may hint at the workings of something bigger? Asian Water Monitor and Lar Gibbon, now two antelope, the black rhino and the sand cat?

Ofc the tropical pack could’ve simply been the sloths and high quality rrh taking up a lot of resources and then the porcupine in arid..

Current favoured guess by the community is a temperate woodlands pack.

I'm thinking Tasmanian Devil, Wild Boar, Reeves's Muntjac, American Black Bear... Potentially a bird in there (some kind of landfowl?) and for the exhibit who knows, maybe Tuatara.
