Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

If this is an upcoming Indian pack, then my species guess list will be:

- Blackbuck
- Axis Deer or Indian Muntjac
- Lion-tailed Macaque
- Fishing Cat
- Honey Badger
- Sarus Crane
- Indian Cobra (exhibit)

what looks rather like Lion-tailed Macaque in the background, along, oddly, with some elephants.
Looks like this DLC will be South Asia pack, the elephants in the background are likely be Sri Lanka Elephant, easy copy & paste of Indian Elephant's model. But my opinion is, if it is really South Asian theme and the Frontier wants to do some reskin work, why not make Chital instead of another Asian Elephant subspecies so we can have the first Indomalayan and first tropical Deer species in the game.

Nice roster, but I suddenly have a bad feeling: the Frontier will make another Crocodile (Marsh Crocodile) rather than the Blackbuck that many players have longed for

Combining what I would prefer with what Frontier can easily create for this new dlc; here below would be my guesses:
  • Honey Badger - 100% confirmed; nothing else to add
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque - As someone who enjoys the female macaques at DAK, this would be a welcome addition
  • Asiatic Lion - Gaining a “new” lion like we just got a “new” flamingo could very well be in the cards at this point
  • Blackbuck - An Indian staple that is highly requested for an antelope
  • Indian Pangolin - It’s been a hot minute since the Chinese Pangolin was added; would definitely be the pack’s oddball addition
  • Gaur - A personal favorite; I really hope we’ll get these beautiful bovines at some point
  • Indian Flying Fox - I doubt we’ll get a new exhibit animal after each new dlc; but this should a relatively easier animal to add, especially when compared to a cobra or Indian Rock Python
  • Sri Lankan / Sumatran / Bornean Elephant - Either one of these subspecies of the Asian Elephant weren’t on the top of my list; but here we are with another pointless addition - least anticipated from a personal standpoint

Although the Elephant is an Asian Elephant Subspecies, this goes to show that Frontier is willing to add Subspecies of Animals already in the game.

It's nice we're getting more primates since the Inclusion of the White-faced Saki, we're getting another species of Macaque, the Lion-tailed Macaque, making the total of Primates: (4 Great Apes, 2 New World Monkeys, 2 Lesser Apes, 4 Lemurs, and 4 soon to be 5 Old World Monkeys) 17 Species!

Finally, at Last, since the European Badger and Wolverine, we're finally getting a highly requested mustelid and people would remember it by its name, Ratel from Zoo Tycoon 2: African Adventure,. . .

The Honey Badger!

To all those complainers who think the roster is wasted with Copy-Paste Species and should be replaced with more unique Species, should be like the Honey Badger, who don't care or give a damm!

Case in point, they’ve been doing this already with both of their Leopards (P. p. orientalis + P. p. pardus); so this should come as no surprise.

Those Animals were added due to the Amur Leopard being more common in zoos and endangered, and the African Leopard is a more familiar and recognizable species.

The Frontier already offers different subspecies of one species starting from the standard version, like Bengal Tiger and Siberian Tiger, Grizzly Bear and Himalayan Bear

The Honey Badger is known in the Zoo Tycoon 2 Community under the Name Ratel, it's how I was introduced to this animal.

That leaves 16 species of the 20 species from the African Adventure Pack that have been added to the Planet Zoo Game.

Well, b/c it is easy copy & paste work that can save up a lot of effort and money for the Frontier

If they're gonna copy and paste (as i expect most of the pack will be) I'd prefer Sarus Crane and Fishing Cat rather than an elephant subspecies. At least get a new species clone than a subspecies.

I swear, if we don't get some kind of cobra for this upcoming pack, I'm...

...still gonna buy it anyway, but I'd be pretty disappointed.

Overall, I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. When I saw the initial teaser image, I was excited to hear about the addition of the honey badger and lion-tailed macaque, but I was also disappointed to hear about the elephants in the background (you think Frontier would've learned their lesson about the Himalayan Brown Bear). At least the Siberian tiger, Arctic wolf, and African leopard have different habitat preferences and requirements than the other subspecies in the game. A Sri Lankan elephant would be barely any different from the Indian Elephant and its inclusion in the game feels like a certified Zoo Tycoon Xbox moment.

As far as the other animals go, it would definitely be a good idea for Frontier to bring in the chital, blackbuck, guar, and cobra for this pack. I'm not sure what the building theme will be since we already have Indian and Southeast Asian building themes in the game, but I look forward to this pack's release anyway.

Frontier often has weird picks, like making Spectacled Caiman rather than Nile Crocodile in the Wetland Pack, Bighorn Sheep rather than Elk or White-tailed Deer or American Black Bear in the American Animal Pack

I definitely agree that not getting Cobra is very disappointing, but the Frontier doesn't offer any new exhibit species for long time, looks like most players are fine without any new exhibit species, b/c they just don't really care about the exhibit species. So this DLC is likely be another pack with 7 habitat species plus around 90 scenery pieces. The scenery pieces may include Nepal and Bhutanese architectural set, which several players request.

The Frontier learn from the last pack that just changing the color of Dall Sheep to get Bighorn Sheep (they from the same continent and both mountain-dwelling species) can satisfy many players, so barely modify the Indian Elephant to get Sri Lanka Elephant should be fine

It's spelled Gaur and what about animals like Asiatic Lions or Onagers?

I came up with this as the list for the next pack, and this is under my assumption of it being based on the Indian sub continent
  1. Honey Badger
  2. Lion-Tailed Macaque
  3. Sri Lankan Elephant
  4. Nilgai / Blackbuck
  5. Sri Lankan Leopard / Asiatic Lion
  6. Gaur / Banteng
  7. King Cobra / Indian Star Tortoise

It would be funny if we had another pack with a generic name like “jungle animals pack” rather than a specific part of the world.

Case in point, they’ve been doing this already with both of their Leopards (P. p. orientalis + P. p. pardus); so this should come as no surprise.

I recall there being a demand for African leopard (for some reason) back before it got out. And you can sort of justify it since the two leopards actually live in different biomes. Not only do all subs of Asian elephants live in tropical habitats, I do not recall seeing anyone demand or rally for a second Asian elephant sub.

Another reason why the leopards were tolerated was because the base game did not have any leopards when it first got out, so a leopard was essential for the roster be it Amur or African. The African leopard also was an anniversary animal, meaning that it did not waste a slot in a paid dlc.

The Frontier already offers different subspecies of one species starting from the standard version, like Bengal Tiger and Siberian Tiger, Grizzly Bear and Himalayan Bear

And people didn’t appreciate the Himalayan brown bear. The tigers were more accepted due to the habitat differences like the leopards had (albeit personally I think two tigers being in the base game sounds like a waste of slots). But the HBB? It felt like a slap on the face, especially when the base game lacked polar bear, which was a staple in zoo games. The animals were indistinguishable and had similar biome requirements. I have seen people complain about the HBB a lot on the forums, so if frontier saw all of this and still said “let’s add another similar subspecies with similar habitat requirements” then I am at a loss for words.

In the end of the day, however, this is the only active zoo game so we can’t complain much about it.
