Hi all,

we are planning a visit to Blackpool Zoo in the very near future probably the next few weeks. And wondered if you had any tips or info we should know?

Cheers

Lee

Don`t miss the Ground Cuscus,Grey Mouse Lemur,Markhor,Gazelle(Ex-Chester will not put a species because different people say different things for it),Agile Wallaby and the only breeding pair of Yacare Caiman in the U.K.

I was there a week ago, first visit in 10 years. Liked the giraffe house, tiger recently was euthanised due to ill health and area under refurbishment as is the sealion pool. Aardvarks are by the childrens zoo and easily missed if you arent looking for it, as is the small monkey house.

If you're going in the next few weeks, you'll probably see the new amur tigers: Zambar from Marwell and Anastasia from Whipsnade. I can tell you that the former in particular is a really fantastic cat. :)

Look forward to it, are the tigers there already or will they be arriving in the next few weeks?

Finally planning on visiting Blackpool next Saturday after are first planned trip was cancelled after my accident :( Just wondered if anybody could help me with the following question we have looked on the zoo's website and saw that for a yearly membership its not that expensive for 2 adults memberships and would easily pay its way if we visited a few times during the year but on the site it says that the membership runs out on 31st December 2010 is this the case regardless of what time of the year you purchase the membership?
And also has anybody ever used vouchers to enter the zoo as where planning on using vouchers from tesco exchanged from clubcard points.

I used Clubcard vouchers twice last year (the first time in full and the second time as part-payment) and had no problems at all.

Thanks for that. Is it a voucher you receive that you just take to payment counter?

You need to exchange your original Clubcard vouchers (sent by Tesco) for rewards tokens by using the Tesco Clubcard website and clicking on the link for Blackpool Zoo. This ensures your tokens are for "days out" as this has a particular code which is printed on the tokens. When they arrive, they will be in increments of £10 and say that they are rewards tokens. These can then be taken to the till at the zoo. I hope this is clear.

I went in the rain last week and had a very good time - there's not many big buildings but there are lots of bits of cover. That said the place was a bit waterlogged and the sea lion exhibit still looked a way off done, so may be worth holding off a little (though the sea lions are on display, so you won't missing seeing them if you go now - they're in temporary accommodation next to the tapirs).

Just to update zoogiraffe's post, the Markhor now seem to have gone but you will now be able to see Blesbok - they have the paddock behind the giraffes and there is public access to the stable if they're kept in.

There's also the Aardvarks, of course, tucked away in the Children's Zoo.

There's not a vast bird collection but there a few nice species - including White-browed Coucal in the aviaries near the tapir stabling. Also, make sure to go inside the house with these aviaries as there are Dwarf Mongooses hidden away inside.

One final slightly-hidden species - even if you don't want to go round the Dinosaur Park I'd pop into the little entrance plaza as there's an exhibit for Northern Tree Shrews in there. :)

thanks for the info. Do you know if there is a map available online?

Also is there a certain route around the zoo which would be best?

According to Blackpool's facebook page, two of the sealions will move into the renovated pool today with the rest of the group moving on Saturday
