I may be going to Java in the near future, mainly to see both Sumatran and Javan rhinos, but I need a bit of help first.
Is ujong kulon natural park open to visitors? If so, can you see Javan rhino there?
How easy is it to see Sumatran rhino at way kambas?
Are bay cats on show at taman Safari Bogor?
Are long beaked echidna on show at batu secret zoo?
Thanks for any answers/replies. :)

It won't be at present, given the fact a tsunami just decimated it...... :(

In the ordinary course of events it *is* possible to obtain permits to visit, but the rhinoceros is so rare that even those working in the national park see them perhaps only once or twice a year at most. It will be even rarer now.

Can't help you there.

Are bay cats on show at taman Safari Bogor?

No; the only individual has now died.

Are long beaked echidna on show at batu secret zoo?

I believe so.

What rare species are kept at taman safari Bogor and ragunan zoo? Also, do sea world ancol still have dugong?
Thanks

I can't remember much about the rare animals of Ragunan Zoo, but here's that I can remember:
* Black-crested Sumatran langur (Presbytis melalophos)
* West Javan langur (Trachypithecus mauritius)
* Natuna Island surili (Presbytis natunae)
* Heck's macaque (Macaca hecki)
* Celebes rusa deer (Rusa timorensis macassaricus)

Here's the list of the rare species for Taman Safari Bogor (based on the exhibit order):

Safari Journey:
* Javan muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak muntjak)
* Sumatran porcupine (Hystrix sumatrae)

Bird Aviary:
*
Red-breasted parakeet (Psittacula alexandri)
* Eastern cattle egret (Bubulcus coromandus)

Baby Zoo:
* Sunda porcupine (Hystrix javanica)
* Siberut macaque (Macaca siberu)

Bird of prey aviaries:
* Grey-headed fish eagle (Haliaeetus ichthyaetus)
* Javan hawk-eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi)
* Changeable hawk-eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus)

Kampung Papua:
* Javan mongoose (Herpestes javanicus)
* Grizzled tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus inustus)

Reptile Tunnel and Nocturnal House:
*
Golden wet-zone palm civet (Paradoxurus aureus)?
* Sulawesi dwarf cuscus (Strigocuscus celebensis)
* Javan spitting cobra (Naja sputatrix)
* Papuan olive python (Apodora papuana)
* Sunbeam snake (Xenopeltis unicolor)
* Malayan krait (Bungarus candidus)
* Water python (Liasis fuscus)

Panda Kingdom:
*
Large bamboo rat (Rhizomys sumatrensis)

Also, do sea world ancol still have dugong?
They died a few years ago, the dugong aquarium now houses hawksbill sea turtles and spinefoots.

Go to www.mammalwatching.com and go to trip reports on Java. I think people have seen Java rhinos but it is very difficult.
