The zoo says it´s just received a family (1,1,3) of Chacoan maras from Prague. They are on show - mixed with pygmy marmosets.

A local newspaper mentions the zoo should build a new greenhouse that would host unique cold-loving mountain plants from Chile and Argentina. And also mentions coruros (Spalacopus cyanus) exhibited there. Completition planned for year-end 2025. Does anybody know where exactly is its construction site located?

Zoo a BZ Plzeň on Instagram: "Dnes bychom Vám chtěli představit unikátní mládě, které se zatím skrývá před zraky návštěvníků v hnízdní dutině. Mládě nestora se vylíhnulo v inkubátoru 10. března. Vejce bylo rodičům odebráno po loňském nevydařeném hnízdění. Samice snesla dohromady tři vejce. Bohužel o jedno v průběhu inkubace přišla a třetí bylo neoplozené. Malý nestor se úspěšně vylíhnul ráno 10. 3. a první dva dny strávil v péči kurátora ptáků. Třetí den bylo mládě vráceno pod samici a ta se již o další odchov stará sama. Chovatelé do hnízdění zasahují jen minimálně. Jednou denně malého nestora kontrolují a váží, aby měli přehled o jeho zdárném vývoji. I saw on Zootierliste that the zoo now has Arborophila torqueola, Burhinus senegalensis, Coturnix coromandelica, and Porphyrio alleni. Do you know if they're on display?
 
Hello. I recently saw a post from someone who shared the contact information for the Pilsen Zoo asking if they could display off-exhibit species. Could you please give me that or another contact? I'm going in a month and would like to speak with them to see if they can show me some species. I've been visiting the zoo for several years, and they've never responded to my emails. When I'm there, they tell me I should have written sooner...

Unfortunately, the zoo has now adopted a blanket policy of not allowing offshow access whatsoever - partially due to constraints on staff availability, and partially due to many people taking advantage of the previous more open policy with ingratitude and greed.

Sorry I couldn't be of more positive assistance :(

Jedná se o jednu z největších chovatelských výzev na úseku malých savců za poslední roky! Moc často se nestává, že by přibyl do naší zoo taxon, který jsme ještě nechovali. Bércouni Petersovi jsou zvířata, která noc tráví zahrabáni v substrátu a během dne se vypravují na lov – zejména hmyzu, ale také milují žížaly. Náš nováček si stále zatím zvyká, ale už je čím dál tím víc registrován i mezi návštěvníky. První dny jsme s chovateli trnuli hrůzou, zda je v pořádku. Vedlo nás to dokonce k nastavení fotopasti, která nás naštěstí uklidnila! Pokud vše půjde podle plánu, doufáme, že do měsíce dovezeme samičku z Berlína. I will be visiting tomorrow, is Akva terra worth a visit as well as the zoo? Are there any rarities at Akva terra that will make it worthwhile? If I could also have some tips in general for the zoo as I don’t want to miss anything (only visiting once)

There are a few nice things at Akva-Tera but if you only have one day I'd recommend you stick to the zoo. Akva-Tera is hard to stretch out for more than half an hour but would cost you at least a couple of hours of zoo time.

The times I've done both it's typically been Akva-Tera the evening before the zoo.

Interesting development the one of the former police dog training grounds, a jellyfish exhibit was not expected!
And where is the "villa" that Ing. Jiří Trávníček mentioned for the Bhutan exhibition?
 
Basically this is the area that zoo received, villa is the building in the upper part of the estate.

It looks much more flat from above, after looking again at the picture on the report (page 70 for anyone curious) it seems much higher than I expected, so the exhibit is gonna be along the slope I imagine? In line with the upper part of the garden.
 
The zoo has lifted restrictions it applied earlier this year to prevent possible FMD infection. The rhino and giraffe house, hoofstock areas and children zoo is again accessible to visitors.

What is closed on the other hand is Czech river path (native outdoor fish tanks). The pair of Eurasian otters expects cubs anyday thus this area is temporary off-limits.
