Plzen keeps now 1,1 Blue-rumped Pitta (Hydrornis soror). Plzen is the only public collection with this great collection worldwide.
It’s positive to see a new pitta holder in Europe, as their stock in European collections is every low.
Oh sorry, my mistake. I mixed it up with Dresden‘s European Stonechats. It’s just a unidentified one.I know they got one as a confiscation from Slovakia, but where did they obtain the second one, do you know?
What is closed on the other hand is Czech river path (native outdoor fish tanks). The pair of Eurasian otters expects cubs anyday thus this area is temporary off-limits.
Maybe safe to assume this is a world first zoo (but not captive) breedingLast month, 6 Spider-tailed horned viper babies hatched. One of the babies is on show in a separate mini tank, near its parents.

I also saw a black stork (Ciconia nigra) in the bigger aviary at the start of the aviary row over at the DinoPark, as well as some Chroicocephalus gulls (most likely black-headed) at the penguin aviary in my visit last week. I don't think they have been mentioned before on this forum and they are not present in ZTL either.New species (which were not mentioned before) I saw during my visit which took place yesterday:
