Blizzard the Polar bear has been diagnosed with cancer:

Heartbreaking. Kirana the Sumatran tiger was killed by Raja during a failed breeding attempt.

This doesn't seem like all that entirely rare of an occurrence with tigers but always incredibly tragic. I'm so sorry for the team who had to experience this.
Raja's maternal grandmother was killed by a male at the Sacramento Zoo in February 2016.
My condolences to the zoo and also my praise for their open communication during what must be a difficult time.
I was surprised to learn the male involved was only two years old, given males of this species don’t reach sexual maturity until three to fours of age.
The San Diego Zoo had a similar incident in 2013, where a two year old male (Malayan) tiger killed his intended mate; and the only fatal Sumatran tiger introduction to occur in the Australasian region also involved a male on the verge of adulthood.
In the UK, a two year old female was almost killed by her intended mate, who she showed no inclination to breed with due to her young age and inexperience.
The South Pacific Aquarium has closed for a renovation job, most of which will involve behind-the-scenes areas like the life support systems. The Aquarium is planned to reopen in 2023.

Believe it or not, this little gal has made history! She marks the first healthy armadillo pup to ever be born at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in their 116 years. This pup also made Vespa and Scooter, the zoo's southern three-banded armadillos, first-time parents. She's two weeks old and just starting to open her eyes. Both she and mom will be viewable by the public once she is old enough.

A four-month-old male Clouded Leopard has arrived at Point Defiance. When he reaches maturity, he is recommended to breed with female Sang Dao. A total of seven Clouded Leopards now live at the zoo: ZOO NOW HOME TO PURR-FECT CLOUDED LEOPARD CUB - Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium
The zoo has welcomed its first births of 2022: several giant leaf insects.
Walrus Network announced that the PDZA is applying for a permit to import 2 walrus, although the current location of those walrus has not yet been disclosed.
Excellent news! Hopefully the import can go through, and new blood can be brought in for the North American Population.
It will certainly be quite the undertaking for the import permits to be accomplished successfully, but I will applaud them for giving this unexpected opportunity a shot, even if the plans end up not falling out in their favor.

Six-year-old Hudson arrived at Point Defiance Zoo in July 2016 as a young calf from the Large Animal Research Station at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
Seven-year-old Charlotte followed a few months later from the Alaska Zoo. They were paired together in hopes they would eventually mate.

The South Pacific Aquarium is Temporarily Closed for some major renovations and won't be open again until 2023 (This is the Aquarium with the Shark Dive, Sting Ray Touch Tank, and Lagoon)
