Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

Yet more baby clouded leopards are expected soon, and this zoo has the potential to produce a lot of the cats in the next few years:

Fantastic! I have never been to this zoo, but this breeding program puts them high up on my list. Also glad to see a mainstream zoo that realizes it is ok to have more than one pair of a given species.

I am a bit surprised that they are willing to announce pregnancies before the actual births however. As we all know not all babies survive and I think a lot of zoos would prefer not to announce anything until they are sure the babies are healthy.

Meerkat Madness at Point Defiance Zoo

In March, Tacoma Washington's Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium welcomed four new Meeerkat pups. Now you can see the quartet for yourself at the zoo's Kid's Zone.

(This info came from Zooborns)

Wolf puppies!
Red wolves were born at the zoo and are now roaming their exhibit space.
The zoo's website said that viewing is limited.
I'm wondering if they have some parts closed off, a time limit on how long one can stay at the exhibit, or if they're letting the pups do what they want and just warning that they may go into a den space for periods of time.

Read that eight wolves were born, heard that one had passed away, but there are only 5 on exhibit now. Wondering what happened to the other two?
Either way five is a great number and I'm hoping to get up there soon!

Akron zoo is opening grizzly ridge next summer with a red wolf exhibit. Maybe 2 of the wolf pups are already at the zoo but we don't know it.

Last Tuesday the pups were on exhibit and none of the exhibit was closed off.

Certainly wonder where Akron is going to get their Red Wolves. But Akron has no room to hold any major Grizzly Ridge animals. So its doubtful the pups would be sent there already.

The Miller Park Zoo in Illinois also has had some wolf pups recently so maybey they will go to grizzly ridge because the travel cost would probally be less then getting Red Wolves from The Point Defiance Zoo.

All of this discussion of Akron Zoo's red wolves is just uninformed speculation and has no business being posted. Please let's keep it to things we know, and in this particular case, let's keep it to things we know about Point Defiance Zoo.

This Zoo is also beautiful

I am very new in this forum and I wonder if you write about your home zoo or about different zoos. I can write about zoo in Berlin and Hannover and Stuttgart in Germany.I have been there long time ago but now when I read the different threads and forum I suppose I visit our Zoo more often.
Looking forward to the next threads
Esther
