The Polar Bears are back on exhibit after their viewing windows were replaced with new, cleaner ones.
Malaysian Long-Legged Katydids were recently welcomed into the collection.
A Canada Lynx named Yukon who has kidney disease is being walked around the zoo to help get bodily fluids into his body. Here's what their Facebook says:
"You may have seen Yukon on a walk around the Zoo with keepers recently. Yukon, a nine-year-old Canada lynx who has kidney disease, recently had a port placed under his skin, which allows keepers to give him fluids on a daily basis. The extra fluid helps his kidneys function better. Since Yukon is a very tractable program animal, we wanted to use this approach to try and improve his kidney function. So far things are going well and you may see Yukon on a walk getting his fluids by keeper staff."

On April 22nd taxpayers in the Tacoma region will vote on a $198 million bond, and if it is successful then about a third of that money will go towards the zoo. About halfway through the article there is a lot of information about the badly outdated North Pacific Aquarium (to be a future South American rainforest), as well as an overhaul of the small polar bear exhibit and the Rocky Shores complex. Of note is that if the bond gets the votes for approval later this month then Northwest Trek Wildlife Park (a sister zoo to Point Defiance) will receive $3 million for a hands-on area called Kids Trek. A type of play zone is needed at that park as it is not really a family-friendly attraction with its hour-long tram tour and multiple wooded trails.

Here we are again. As I have stated before, I am happy that polar bears are getting upgrades to their exhibits. However, this is another zoo that seems to think they can acquire new bears and I honestly do not see that happening any time soon. Should money be spent on this so in about ten years time when the current male polar bears are gone, there is an empty exhibit? I hope this one and other zoos have in the back of their mind an alternative animal to put in the exhibit when they run out of polar bears.
