Yes, indeed, the MN Zoo exhibit is set in the volcanic land of geysers and there are three in the exhibit (if I remember right).
No apples or plums...not found on Kamchatka...so Mountain Ash berries are the closest the bears will get.

Coming back to this polar bear conference. I was slightly scared by expensive hi-hech gadgets (like ice machines and misting) which were proposed but not certain to work, instead of simpler solution - shaded spot, some vegetation etc.
Sometimes simplest is best. :)
 
How about a few high pressure water jets/fountains aimed at different angles playing at different times ? Aucklands polar bears used to enjoy the powerful fountain in their grotto -- they tried sitting on it , and attacked the flow of water with their paws ...... these cant be too hard to install and maintain ?

I believe that Sea World Florida's polar bear exhibit uses jets of water in the pools to stimulate bears when they're in the water
 
Just an update, the polar bear exhibit at the Toronto Zoo is going to be called, "The Tundra Trek" now not the Tundra Exhibit.
