The new enclosure is now open to visitors. In addition to Anouk, 9-year-old female Nicky from CERZA has also moved to Lumigny Safari Reserve.

Zoo am Meer Bremerhaven has now confirmed that Anna and Elsa will be moving to Zoo Brno in mid-July. Their mother Valeska will later be joined by another female polar bear. More information about this will be announced at a later date.

The EEP has decided that neither Anna and Elsa nor Valeska will get a breeding recommendation. Their genes are well represented in the European population.

Ouch. Besides two young females, Brno also wanted to obtain two males, so they could start breeding polar bears again. But that seems rather impossible now. I'd love to know what their plans currently are, since this was probably quite unexpected…
 
The 24-year-old male polar bear Kap has died at Zoo Karlsruhe.

His general condition had deteriorated in recent weeks. An initial examination under anaesthesia did not reveal much. In the last few days, his condition worsened and he was examined again. During this examination, it was determined that his liver values had deteriorated despite special medication. The ultrasound also revealed significant changes in the gallbladder and liver. As there was no prospect of recovery, the decision was made to euthanise him.

Lara from Gelsenkirchen moved to Bremerhaven. To Gelsenkirchen a male will come to her place. Bremerhaven keeps only females now. From Bremerhaven Anna and Elsa moved to Brno some days ago.
