Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Port Lympne 2009

I think you are right with a vesectomy not being completely foolproof they would of gone to the option of Castration.
With a group of carefully bred (as carefully as they can) individuals inbreeding would not help them at all.
Milo and Moonlight are related to all the cubs born to Saffiya and Solomon so to pair them up with those individuals would not be happening. If they are having a break that could be a good idea they have plenty of individuals now and are using all the space they have.1 Enclosure is being used for the Old Lioness Jade so in a few years that would be empty leaving more room for breeding again perhaps.
Regards

That'd be fairly awesome if it's true.

any confirmation of the cubs yet?

As reported on another thread, a reticulated giraffe from Whispnade has joined their herd of 2 rothschilds and 3 hybrids.

I didn't see any (and despite the freezing wind off the Channel I did see most of the species in there) and I don't remember them being mentioned on any signs.

They certainly have a small group of Greater Kudu at Howletts (not that I got much of a view - the paddock was wet and they stayed in the hardstanding).

ISIS say that Port Lympe now holds a male sitatunga. Does anyone know anything about it or where it came from and where it is being housed?

There was a male Sitatunga in one of the side paddocks viewed from the safari ride (just before the main paddock) in November. Don't know anything more I'm afraid.

Wow, I just found this thread and saw the link to the white lechwe born this summer at PL. I was there in late October and would have loved to see it. Are the lechwe on the African Experience? (I didn't get to ride this because the park is so big I ran out of time).

The lechwe are on the African Experience . The white gene has been in the UK population for many years . The herd at Chester , one of the two original UK herds , the other being at Edinburgh , used to produce a white calf occasionally . There are a lot of lechwe in the UK , most originating from only a few founders .
