Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Port Lympne 2018

I believe that, given the choice, Damian would close PL and continue with Howletts. The staff rarely see him and, when they do, it’s usually unannounced and with the gorillas!

I think when he first took over there was talk of Port Lympne being sold off- but it didn't happen.

I'm sure the opposite was rumoured on here a few years ago i. e it was more likely Howletts would be the one to close!

Black rhino bulls Sammy & Kasangu have moved. Sammy has now moved to Howletts and Kasangu moving to Port Lympne to become a breeding bull i presume.

Was Kasungu born at Howletts....

Yes he was born at Howletts. See the extract from the Howletts web site below:-

At Howletts we have two female black rhino, Salome and Damara and their two calves, a male called Kasungu and a female called Mizi. Kasungu is the first black rhino born at Howletts in 40 years....

Apparently there's a new clouded leopard enclosure at base camp, any one seen it? Also amur leopard encounter on the website, any idea where they are in the park and if there on show?

I can't see Amur Leopards anywhere on the Map though, and would imagine if they were off show they wouldn't have them as an encounter would they ?
Maybe it's Amur's they have at Base camp and not Clouded ? As Clouded are at Howletts aren't they ?

You may well be right, but Port Lympne have held clouded leopard for at least 10 years , whilst having them at Howletts, so I don't really understand this point

Was at Port Lympne about 5 weeks ago, and can't recall seeing any Clouded's then? Where are they housed (Old exhibit, if new exhibit is at Base camp).

I saw them Howletts, as well as Chinese Leopards.

I haven't been this year, probably the first time in around 7 years I've not made it there, so they may not still be in the same place.

The clouded leopards were at the beginning of what was marked as primate trail on the last map I have. Just past the binturong enclosure there is a path down to the left. There is a primate enclosure on the left (howler monkey I think) and the clouded leopard cage was just beyond that some distance back from the path.

They have 1.0 Clouded Leopard at Basecamp which previously held Scottish Wild Cats and Snow Leopards before them. They still have 2.0 Clouded Leopards elsewhere in the park.

The 1.1 Amur Leopards came from Colchester Zoo and are indeed off-show. In a new enclosure built below the old elephant sand paddock.

The Amur leopard enclosure is along the path going between the two rhino enclosures, at the end of the path is the bush dog enclosure and if you were to go up that hill you would see the Amur Leopard enclosure. Going down takes you to the fishing cats and red pandas.

There is a clouded leopard at base camp, 1 by the primate trail and another off show that lives by the main tiger enclosure. So you can see the amur leopard enclosure but you can't get to it?

Anyone know when hybrid giraffe Jonathan moved/died ? He seems to be the one missing. He was born at Marwell back in 2003. They are doing really well with their Rothschild breeding long may it continue
He died June 2011 at Port Lympne
