Port Lympne have teased a new species announcement. The photo is a close up and appears to be an Orangutan
It would be incredible to see the Aspinall parks a new ape after their success with gorillas, and especially interesting to see if they display them in the same style as the current ape species. Have Howletts or Port Lympne ever displayed orangutans or chimpanzees before?

I think Lympne did have chimps previously in one of their current gorilla enclosures. I like the gorilla enclosures at Lympne but feel that the ones at Howletts leave a lot to be desired but I've seen people rave about them on here so I guess it's a question of taste. I'm sure they have some kind of plus point despite the lack of size or outdoor space...

I believe from a recent visit to another Kent park the announcement isn’t off orangutans but a different species

Wonder if it's the Twycross trio being temporarily housed there while their new enclosure gets built
Even if the species is orangutans, I would think probably not as the new exhibit at Twycross along with the rest of the building work is taking place far from the current orangutan enclosure.

Had been told a few weeks ago there was two Orangutans (Both rescues) and they were residing in the former Gorilla enclosure by the Binturong, which has been empty since that group was moved to the all bachelor group, down by the Rhino and Red Panda.

Going by the picture, it certainly looks like that is the case.

Do you mean the enclosure with the tall tower cage attatched?

Are all the male gorillas currently now in the bottom circular enclosure?

Not sure how to describe it. There's three enclosures, the one at the top of the hill with the garden.
Then the Bachelors in the exhibit down by the Rhino Paddocks with the two outside paddocks, which is just bachelors now, and then there's the other one, which is next to the Binturong and Porcupine. That one has been empty for a short while, since the boys all moved down the bottom. I am told this is where the Orangs are.

Still presuming you mean the 'middle' enclosure of the three, with Kioullou's group higher up, and the original circular bachelor house at the bottom. This would make sense as this latter house had only one male left in it a few months ago.

Official confirmation Port Lympne have received 2.0 Sumatran orangutans.

"The zoos ultimate goal for Hadjah and Malou is to eventually rewild them, if possible."

Not sure how possible this will be. With BOS they do the semi rewinded bit when they are quite young to teach them how to survive. These two are going to be used to being provided with food etc. Good luck to them though.
