Possible big cat kill?

When the press article said "razor sharp teeth" and "seagulls", the article then to lose any credence. The dental remarks of this sad decomposed animal fails to show that it is a feline and furthermore, there are certain questions that arise to the "DNA" sampling. Can the sample be shown to be collected correctly, tested soundly, who is in control, how and where and when how has this been done? Can there be a neutrality from those of the crypto-groups, the person who found it and how the research has been dealt with? Given the animal has decayed somewhat, the evidence of skin shrinkage around the teeth are seen, therefore, this will give the teeth a more showing feature. I fail to see and even agree with the theory that this is a "big cat cub" as reported. The size of tail, overall shape and size along with teeth does show that this is not feline and may be an otter. ;)

the only thing that is throwing me a little are the shape and size of teeth not sure they look or belong to an otter but I don't think it's a big cat or cub

Otters do have, for their size, large and powerful teeth. Its one reason they can inflict very nasty bites. As pointed out shrinkage of skin around the gums etc can make them look even bigger.

that article is ridiculous! The proportions are nothing like any sort of felid! Definitely an otter.

Why do you assume that this is an "American River Otter" and not a European Otter?

Are you commenting on the photo in the newspaper that is being claimed as a big cat or the skull Lesley4444 has posted? You post is not clear.

The skull is an American otter. Look at the site it is on and type in otter. The otter skull thumbnails show the one that has been linked by Lesley4444 is an American otter.

I am pretty sure Lesley4444 is not suggesting the dead animal is an American otter.

No definitely not suggesting that the dead animal is an american otter... just showing a general otter skull to prove they do indeed have sharp big teeth....sorry if there was a confusion

Ah...okay, the way you first put it came across as if you were suggesting that the dead animal in the news paper article was an American Otter. Your post is now clearer. Thanks ;)

Beaste Dubh's - Otter size is almost a match, give or take an inch or two to the pictures shown within the news papers and articles regarding this so-called big cat body. Given that due to decay, flesh, gums and the meat will shrink and will give a greater appearance of something more sinister, especially if most people have never seen something that has passed away with decay. The shrinkage around the gums and jawline is normal decay and decomp and I amvery surprised that certain folk such as the "expert" named in the article as well as the person finding the animal jumped to the wrong conclusion, especially without even basing the facts on normal skull and denten sizes and numbers of teeth. Again, the press with there nonsense and make-believe big cats with the few odd and bods who say they are "experts" seem to put their foot in the mud...but there we go, the normal journalistic dross.
