To try and make things a bit more clear, I've created another quick search link in the green navigation menu at the top of the page.
Here's what the three searches do ("New Posts" works the same way it always has - it's the other two which are new, but I'll include all three for completeness):
New Posts: This search shows any new or updated forum threads since the last time you read them. The system tracks which threads you have read and so only shows those which are new or have been updated (ie they have new posts), since you last looked at them. Once you read a thread, it disappears from the search in the future unless someone else posts in it again.
New threads you post don't show up in the lest, since you have already read them (when you posted it). You do read your threads before you hit "submit" don't you ?
This search does not show any new or updated threads from the gallery - only the forum discussion area.
You can use the "mark forums read" link to clear out the search results of threads you don't want to read (you can't undo this, so only click on that link if you are sure that's what you want to do).
New Comments: This search shows any new or updated gallery threads since the last time you read them. Each photo that is uploaded gets a new thread created, and so will appear in the New Comments search results. Similarly, photo threads which have a new comment that you haven't read yet will also appear in the New Comments search results. The search results are sorted by order of most recent comments, so you may get old photo threads appearing higher up the list than new photos if the comments happened after the photos were uploaded.
Basically it works the same way that "New Posts" does, but for gallery threads.
You can use the "mark galleries read" link to clear out the gallery search results of photos/comments that you don't want to read.
Recent Photos: I've added this in to make it easier to just browse through the most recently uploaded photos - displayed in reverse chronological order (most recent photo first) based on the time the photo was uploaded - ignoring any comments that have been made. This uses the Gallery Sort Tool, so you can easily change the sort order if you wish.
--------
I hope this helps you understand how it all works and makes it easier for you to keep track of what's new and what's happening!
