Powder Valley Nature Center is a small facility located in Kirkwood, Missouri, a city in the St. Louis suburbs. It is part of a park that features several trails through a hickory forest often used to view naturally occurring native animal species like whitetail deer and wild turkey. The nature center itself is focused on teaching about native wildlife and features dioramas using taxidermy, as well as live herptiles, fish, and bees.

Today, on November 17th, 2022, the facility is celebrating the Missouri Department of Education's anniversary with birthday cake. They will be educating the public about one of the animals at the nature center, a red-eared slider named peanut. She is named for her shell, which has been disfigured by a six-pack ring. She was rescued by a good Samaritan who brought her to the St. Louis Zoo, where she was treated. She now lives at Powder Valley and serves as an ambassador for the cause against littering. Today, they will be educating visitors about what they can do to prevent this from happening to more wildlife.
