Poznan Zoo (New) Poznan New zoo news

Hi, I have a question about the rescue lions at Poznan Nowe Zoo.

According to the information table at the zoo, and some internet news, female Kizia is a purebred Somali lion, and male Leos is a liger (lion-tiger hybrid), which was discovered by genetic tests done somewhere in Luxembourg. How valid is this information? Is the female really a pure Panthera leo somaliensis, assuming it is considered a valid subspecies?
Does it mean that there can be more un-recognized multi-generational hybrids lion-tigers in zoos and as private pets?

See eg: Zoo Poznań: Kociaki z Instagrama? Nie, to drapieżniki - lwica Kizia i lew Leoś. Spokój odnajdą w azylu

These tests were done during Ms. Zgrabczyńska time, so in my opinion they're completely unreliable. Leoś looks like a typical cage lion. If he has any tiger genes, it's no more than 1/16 or 1/32.

Thanks! I hope the new management will steer the zoo to achieve its real potential - with over 100 hectares of forest, hills and lakes and visitor base of a big city, it could become one of top zoos in Europe.

Crandall ‘The Management of Wild Mammals in Captivity’, refers to a fertile female Liger producing offspring, whose genes may well have persisted to the present day in Lion-looking descendants
