The local municipality of Praha-Troja has decided to block the construction of the new gorila house. It is impossible to say when the house will be ready. Maybe some sort of compromise can be reached with them, who knows.

The new parrot house has serious delay. The shell structure is done, but it will take at least another 12 months till interier is done, plants grow a little and the whole is open to visitors.

The tasmanian devils should arrive circa 2018/2019.

Snub-nosed monkeys will arrive only after their enclosure is built. But right now, there are polar bears on that area. Only when new Arktida is built (polar bears + seals enclosures) near quarantine, can polar bears move and construction of enclosures for panda and snub-nosed monkey can start.

Whereabouts in the zoo is the quarantine area?

It is the most north-western part of the zoo. Where you go and don´t see any animals. You pass amur tiger and leopard, white-lipped deer, bighorn sheep and milu, and continue to small restaurant. Quarantine is that low long house on your right side.

What is the reason for this. Does it have any thing to do with the new entrance? I hope not because I realy hoped for a second outlook for the savannah.

Thank you. I had a half formed memory of it being over there. That should certainly transform that part of the zoo. It will really focus it as an area for cold climate animals.

At the beginning of December a group of Earless monitors arrived at Prague Zoo from Japan ! The largest of these new animals can be seen in the Indonesian Jungle Pavilion.

Very interesting! Were these captive bred in Japan?
This would make Prague the second zoo in Europe with the species and both zoos with individuals on show.

Prague have put out a call on facebook for volunteers to help with a new project to capture Saola and try to breed them in situ.

Wow! I imagine this will coincide with a lot of zoochatters planning return trips to Vietnam! :)

It would be great, no doubt about that. But they actually demand somebody who has work expirence as a zookeeper or is a biologist. (to quote the director: "top tier zookeeper or biologist, who doesn´t mind to live long-term in Asia") That is quite a specific qualification. I would love to go, but you know, being in the middle of my university studies, with little to no work experince in this field, the chances are rather slim :D :(
