Prague Zoo Praha Prague Zoo News 2017

Sorry. I really need to research before I post anything :)

Seems so :p

Basically what happened is that after much negotiation Dublin received 1,1 Golden Snub-nosed from Beijing in March 1987, only for the Chinese to decide they didn't want the species to be held by Western zoos and demand them back in September 1987; as the animals were officially on loan they were entirely entitled to do so, but given any individuals coming to Prague would be under a similar agreement this raises the possibility it could happen again.

So it looks like the devils and presumably the rest of the Australasian collection will move to where the old aviaries (possibly also the playground?) currently are. Then the pandas, golden monkeys and hopefully other chinese species will go into the current Australasian/Polar bear area, which already includes red panda.

Unanswered questions: what will happen to all those birds? That's obviously one of the most dated areas of the zoo, and redevelopment is inevitable, but let's hope they have a plan for them.

What will happen to the old gorilla house? Another large species of primate? Something completely different?

Finally, the new polar bear enclosures, while an obvious improvement, still look a little on the small side, especially considering that there is I'm sure a lot more space in that area.

I don´t know what exact species are there right now, but I think tkat they will be moved to off-show area and then moved to other aviaries in zoo, also the more common species could be probably sent to different zoos...

Nobody really knows, what will happen with gorilla house, but the general zoo philosophy is to have in these lower parts of zoo species, that can be easily evacuated so it probably won´t be primates

Images have been released of the planned giant panda/ golden monkey exhibit and the proposed Arctic area.

Are the monkeys coming to Prague Zoo Cercopithecus kandti or Rhinopithecus roxellana?

2 Javan rhinoceros hornbill chicks - parent reared. The old male died 2 years ago, and only in December 2016 did Prague receive a new adult male from Walsrode. Within weeks he bonded with old female and now their first chicks left the nesting box.

One Palm Cockatoo chick - the first parent-reared one in Prague so far. Previous ones were always hand-reared.

Indian Pygmy Goose has another batch of duckings.
