Prague Zoo Praha Prague Zoo News 2020

I look forward to the inevitable run-down of species :)

It looks like a brush turkey on there.

Confirmed are:

• Tasmanian devil
• Parma wallaby
• Red-necked wallaby
• Long-nosed potoroo
• Echidna
• Tawny frogmouth
• Brush turkey
• Cape Barren goose
• Tasmanian eastern grey kangaroo
• Golden-shouldered parrot

Some more birds, and 2 snake species are present. I'm sure someone will be able to visit it in the coming days add the rest.

What I am most interested in (besides devils) is how the wetland aviary will influence the other Australian aviary that is next to Shoebills, because the species lineup could be very similar, if not the same in both of these...

Might well mean that aviary ends up being used for something else, I imagine!

How many kangaroo species should be there? Were some of them moved here from upper part of zoo? If, I wonder who will inherit their original paddocks (there is/was one with red big kangaroos next to emus and bush dogs and one with some smaller species a little further, near horses and zebras...

I think what you mean is they have an Australia precinct hemmed in between Africa forest exhibits and the Indonesian pavilion (emu, cassowary and red kangaroo) and the other yard over by the mixed species with bush dog when you out the Australian area and come up to addax, zebra, maned wolf and then to the left way up pass by a wallaby yard.

Potoroo - new species
Tasmanian eastern grey - new species
Red-necked and Parma - moved from upper part, IIRC there were Swamp wallabies with them and those are staying there, Red kangaroos and Eastern wallaroos are staying there too.

So there probably won't be any replacing, they just keep those as they are or maybe they'll move the Eastern wallaroos in with the Swamps, which would give more space to Maned wolves.

They might even possibly rework the fencing of Swamp's exhibit and bring in Yellow-footed rock wallabies that were originally planned for the Tasmanian exhibit.

So the birds were indeed moved from Shoebills to the new aviary, so species like Little pied cormorant, Australian shelduck, Wonga pigeon, etc. are there, a relatively new-ish addition is the white-eyed duck (Aythya australis) and they even imported wild budgerigars from Melbourne Zoo.

Prague have White striped dorcopsis according to ZTL

The zoo today unveiled a new wooden hut for squirrel monkeys. (They had to move from their old exhibit due to some planned construction works on canalisation.) They now use that small empty island near gharials as their outside enclosure. In about half a year, they should move back to their old place. What animal will be placed into this newly built hut when it´s empty again, was not mentioned anywhere.

Does anybody know if the zoo is able to source wombats? They were planned for Tasmania and I was really looking forward to have them here, but their exhibit now serves for Cape Barren geese and nobody talks about them anymore.

And for fellow Czech/Slovak zoochaters - the zoo advertises following open positions: press spokeperson, financial accountant, mammal curator, invertebrates curator, population biologist, arcitect for investment dep. and exhibits artist.

Does anybody have information on the zoos master plan? Ive heard references of the old elephant house being turned into an Amazon complex, as well as the addition of giant pandas and golden stub-nosed monkeys. Are there any other future exhibits down the pipeline?

Those have been pretty much canceled, although the panda exhibit will still be built but there will be different bear species, unless something significantly changes.

The main developments right now are
1. Gorilla house
2. New Polar bear exhibit
3. Reconstructing and reworking some of the hoofstock enclosures and stables.

Cancelled? I thought that just postponed :(
Some time back I posted some plan (two or three years old?), as a longer-term plans there were also new hyenas, cheetah and rhinos enclosures behind giraffes, some changes around big cat house (know someone more?) and new rodents house and nocturnal house in upper part of zoo.
But I do not know if something of that shall be still realized - and if, then unlikely before Homins mentioned projects (these are for sure, I guess? gorilla house is already builded and will be finished this or next year, probably)
edit: oh there is it, from year 2016, not sure how much outdated or if there is something more actual

On Sunday afternoon, local thunderstorms with intense rain went over Prague. A stream of muddy water with stones from nearby hills went though the zoo. Sea lion basin is full of it, pinguin house had dirty water standing in, some bird aviaries got cought too. Full extense of damage is yet to be calculated. The zoo is open again.

There was also a storm in Budapest with "a little bit" of ice. The zoo isn't damaged.
