Update about plains - new (reconstructed) Przewalski horses paddock should be finished next year (spring 2024)
Do you know what the plans are for this?

Incredible!! Hope it is the first of many!
That does sound like great news but I do wonder if it is too early to announce the arrival of the pango pup since this is a critical period.
I spent a half-day in the zoo. I have nothing new to report, just a snapshot:
Bird flu in the country, including near city Prague, prompted the zoo to react and move many birds indoors or into aviaries. Maybe 40% of kept bird species is off-show currently. Bird enthusiasts should plan a trip for late March at the earliest.
Construction continues at new enclosures for wild horses, porcupines and Sichuan aviary. The latter two might be open before high summer season starts, but horses rather in autumn or even next spring. The aviary will be ugly and small, I dont feel any anticipation.
Cheetah enclosure is used by heavy machinery, animals are off-show.
Old gorilla house with bachelors group is open, but you must come from direction of big cat house.
Wombat was active and photogenic on both laps I made. Devils and echidnas were invisible. Of 4 devils imported, one is dead and others are nearing their max lifespan. I hope the zoo has another import planned and soon. Would be pitty if their stunning exhibit would become empty.
Whole area around restaurant near bisons is closed for construction works, couldnt find out what exactly they plan here. Maybe just pavement repairs?
Had seen only 2 antelope species and both in small separation paddocs. All other were off-show.
Former talapoin enclosure in small Africa house is inhabited by a pair of white-headed lemurs.
Had lunch at Restaurant Ocean near main entrance. Like other restaurants in zoo Prague, it´s basicaly a school canteen. Had very tasty roasted chicken legs with mashed potatoes for 7 euros.
Do you (or anyone else) know, whats going on there?Cheetah enclosure is used by heavy machinery, animals are off-show.
Hopefully things will be opening up by the time I get there in late March RE birds. Is it mostly the waterfowl and wading birds off-display?

I think that part of cheetah enclosure was gone already in summer (but I may be wrong)
Is it just part of construction site of nearby new porcupine paddock or something else?
I couldnt find any clear pattern in how they moved birds around.
All 3 pelican species are off show, even those that lived in an aviary.
Outside in open-topped enclosures are still flamingos (200 animals in 3 species), big flock of Canada goose with bisons, penguins and emus.
Tropical birds that have heated inside rooms are locked inside. If their rooms are off-show, they are now invisible. That means all pheasantry for example (kagu, hornbills, owls etc.).
Ducks and cranes moved from their usual ponds into aviaries and are visible, just elsewhere in the zoo (Bewick swan, crested ducks...)
All walk-through aviaries and bird houses are open and have most usual species on show. Only 3 out of 4 waterfowl aviaires near shoebills are empty.
Winter hard species are in their usual aviaries and are visible.
Do you remember which species were they?Had seen only 2 antelope species and both in small separation paddocs. All other were off-show.
I saw sitatungas and Nile lechwes.Do you remember which species were they?
You could ask why porcupines need an enclosure with so much concrete and earth works that could be enough for a nuclear shelter.
Or you can ask why the zoo sacrificed a very nice cheetah enclosure to change it into a muddy road for heavy trucks.
The aviary will be ugly and small, I dont feel any anticipation.
Are the horned screamers off exhibit?
