Prague Zoo Praha Prague Zoo News 2025

Visiting Prague again today, could anyone give me some tips on seeing the Kagu?
Go to see it about hour or less before closing the zoo, when there are not many people around. I see it regularly at that time, but they are quite shy, so be careful, they will retreat if you move too quickly.
I think kagus in Pilsen are more bold, I saw them quite closely even during the day.

I agree. I don't recall ever seeing the Prague kagu (or Pragu ;)) but the ones in the tropical pavilion at Pilsen were showing well a few days ago. One was on the very front ledge of the indoor viewing area and was erecting its crest as I walked slowly past, first time I'd seen one do that.

I used to have ca 50% chance to see the original male kagu duo at Prague when I walked by the aviary before 10am.

The zoo transports the next batch of wild horses to Kazakhstan. Starting from breeding station in Dolni Dobrejov (south of Prague), a truck with 4 horses went to Prague military airport this morning. The stallion Whisky managed to break its transport box while the truck was driving on a Prague obchvat (6-line highway around the city) and jumped out of the truck and started to run on the packed highway. The zoo personal in cars stopped traffic and started to round him. After quite some time, they could circle him and the vet could immobilise him. The rest of horses could be re-loaded on another truck and they reached the airport. The stallion could be loaded into a horse trailer asleep by police and zoo staff and moved to the zoo areal (he wont continue to Kazachstan). The highway was blocked for several hours and there are still kilometers of traffic jam.

Hello! Im looking at planning a trip here, could anyone confirm if honey badgers are still held here please? And are there Wallaroos?

Both species are kept and are on-show.

Honey badgers live in the Afrika Zblízka house in the upper part of the zoo, at the nothern zoo entrance, next to bat-eared foxes - you can see both their outside and inside living space. Eastern wallaroos are kept in a walk-though enclosure in the lower part of the zoo, within Darwin Crater area.

Have the wallaroos moved recently? On the Easter weekend they were still up next to the Maned Wolves and Addax on the hilltop - there were Tasmanian Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Red-necked Wallabies in the Darwin Crater enclosure.
