Because Praying mantis are among the populair insect-species kept ( and sometimes bred ) in zoos I thought it would be nice to create a thread special for these animals.
In this thread we can place news, obsevations and species-lists of species seen in zoos.
To start with a general article about Praying mantis :

Manual of praying mantis morphology, nomenclature, and practices (Insecta, Mantodea)

and an article about the Praying Mantis Project of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History :

Project Mantodea:

Bristol does not currently have any on display but they have exhibited many species in the past. For several years they had a colony of Indian Violin Mantis Gongylus gongylodes. Unlike most mantids they can be kept in groups as long as they can spread out enough for each to find their own perches. The group was very impressive as they are a very distinctive grass-mimic species. The other species that is often displayed is the Orchid mantis Hymenopus coronatus. For myself I have raised Deroplatys the Dead Leaf mantis but have not managed to breed them yet.
