Taronga Zoo pregnant hippo?

Overheard on the TV. Not sure but think Petra the female pygmy hippo at Taronga maybe pregnant again.

I really hope so Jay, another baby would really help the species in oz. I wished they had put the adults together years ago

Forthe sake of completion of this thread I'm going to copy Steves comments aboutht he birth of a hippo here.

"Has it been posted here yet that the latest Taronga birth [a male] has died?

Mum would not nurse it [as with the previous birth] and the keeping staff tried a different approach to raising it this time. Didn't work.

I wonder how many offspring they will produce before the "powers that be" decide we have too many from that pairing.

Hopefully she is pregant again, How many would we have if they had paired these Pygmy Hippos years ago!

or bothered to go get the "free to good home" one rather than let it be shot...

its a sad week for pygmy hippos.
