The new president of the San Diego Zoo Paul Baribault is profiled and interviewed in this article. He worked at Disney in film promotion and then worked at the Jane Goodall Institute before joining San Diego Zoo. No mention is made of platypus.

I just finished - a really interesting article (and not just because he lived in La Canada Flintridge, which is the small town directly next to the small town I grew up in La Crescenta). Some people may be dubious of hiring someone with no zoo experience (as the article alludes to). But based on what I have read here it seems like a good choice. San Diego Zoo Global (which oversees more than just the zoo) is a massive organization and really unlike any other zoo's setup as far as I know. They don't need a zookeeper, they need a marketer (which he was) and businessperson who can steer a large and complex organization with a worldwide reputation. I wish him and the entire San Diego staff all the best.
